We caught up with actress Olivia Culpo on all things food, fashion and lifestyle. Turns out, she loves French toast, kickboxing and a good farmer’s market. She wants you to love yourself, and also filled us in on her beauty routine, enough said right?
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
I would start the morning with a huge homemade breakfast spread. Fresh fruit, eggs, French toast, bacon, coffee – the works! For lunch, I love by Chloe. It is vegan and they make the best salads and soups. Ideally, next would be a stop to the farmers market for fresh fruit and veggies and popping those in my juicer to make a delicious juice or smoothie. No questions, dinner has to be Italian. I come from an Italian family so it is only natural to me! Bring on the pasta, pizza and bread.
What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?
A lot of people will be surprised to know that in the morning I don’t usually wash my face, but sometimes I use Dr. Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta Peel. The reason I sometimes skip the wash is to preserve the natural oils that develop on my skin throughout the night. Next I use Clarins Glow Booster combined with a SPF moisturizer, and that’s it! Having SPF in my morning moisturizer is so important for healthy skin protection.
When I get ready for bed I first use my Clarisonic with Dr. Lancer Face Scrub. Next, I use a few different serums depending on the status of my skin at the time. I am really loving Dr. Barbara Sturm Ampoule Serum right now. For moisturizer I use Charlotte Tilbury and for eye cream I use Lumiere Riche extreme moisture eye cream.
How do you always start your day? What’s your go-to breakfast?
I like to start my day with a quick meditation or workout to get going on the right foot. For breakfast, if I am on the go I always make sure to grab a banana. If I have a little more time, I will make a smoothie and lather that banana in peanut butter! On an ideal day, with lots of time for breakfast, I’ll go all out with a big spread. (See question one for ideal breakfast details!)
What are your go-to workouts?
I love all types of workouts. I think it is really important to switch up your workout routine. Some of my favorites are spinning, kickboxing, and barre classes. I also love the Kayla Itsines at-home workouts. I can do them on-the-go, and they totally kick my butt.
What’s one thing you were always insecure about growing up? How did you overcome it?
I used to be insecure about my big eyebrows. The boys in school would always make fun of me, and I really hated how they were such a prominent feature on my face. Now I love them, and they are one of my favorite features! It is so important to own your differences and realize they make you unique and who you are.
What’s a piece of advice you’d have for young women struggling with body image?
Many women and men struggle with body image every day. I think that is it so important to love yourself and remind yourself that you are amazing just the way you are. I know sometimes that can be a really hard thing to do, but it is so important to remember to do every single day.
What’s the issue you feel most passionately about right now and why?
There are so many important conversations going on in the world right now that impact each and every person. Whether it impacts you personally, or your friends and family, it is so important to get involved and stand behind what you believe in.
What are three things you’re coveting right now?
I know they have been around for a while, but I am still loving combat boots. They are so comfortable and badass at the same time. I also really love pinky rings of all kinds. There is something unexpected about a statement pinky ring. There is an Unravel purse I have had my eye on and may not be able to resist buying it for much longer!
What would your last meal be? Who would it be with?
My last meal would be with all of my friends and family and it would be my mom’s homemade pizza or her homemade chicken noodle soup, or maybe both!
What are your favorite restaurants?
Well I obviously have to say The Back 40, my restaurant that I own with my dad in Rhode Island! Seriously amazing comfort food. In Boston, I really love the Parish Café. If I am in New York, I absolutely love Carbone and Quality Italian. When I’m back home in LA, I must admit I am a huge fan of Nobu Malibu. Everything from the amazing food served to the super fun and beautiful atmosphere makes it almost impossible not to love that place!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? The worst?
The best advice I have ever received would be to decide your actions based on what feels good to you inside. This has really shaped the way I look at decisions both personally and professionally. The worst would be – claw your way to the top!
If you could come up with a quote of the day to sum up your current mood and mode, what would it be?
Since it is fashion month, I think I have to go with a classic quote from Coco Chanel! “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”
