Sadie Sink Dreams of Being A Food Critic

It’s no secret that we’re obsessed with Stranger Things; we cannot stop pouring over every detail of the second season. In continuing with our series of Stranger Things interviews, we chatted with Sadie Sink, aka new girl on the block and everyone’s crush, Max. We chatted with Sink in New York about how she got the part, why she went vegan (spoiler: Woody Harrelson is involved), and what the cast does when they’re not filming. We decided to take her bowling at Lucky Strike and get to know her a bit better, and turns out, Sink is a girl after our own hearts – a tried and true Potatohead. She loves cooking in her down time and her go-to recipes include vegan Caesar salad and overnight oats. Tear yourself away from binge-watching, this interview is a must-read…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day from breakfast to dinner?

I’m usually rushing to get to school every morning, so there isn’t much time to sit and enjoy breakfast. I’ll usually make overnight oatmeal with almond butter and fruit in advance, that way I can just grab it and run. For lunch, I’ve been having a lot of soup and salad. I found a really good Caesar salad recipe that I like to bring to school. For dinner, I like to have something big like pasta. I love to cook, and I get the most time to do it at night, so I’ll experiment with new recipes then.

Can you tell us a bit about the audition experience, and your reaction upon getting the part of Max?

The audition process was hard work. I did about four callbacks and then a screen test with Caleb and Gaten. After a month long process, I found out I got the part. I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to start filming.

We loved you as Max on the show! How are you and Max alike? How are you different?

Max and I share the same carefree and laid back personality. We are also both a little closed off sometimes. She’s much more fiery than I am and isn’t afraid of confrontation. As for me, I’m terrified of it.

Do you skateboard in real life, or did you have to learn for the show?

I had to learn to skateboard for the show. It was hard at first, but I eventually got the hang of it.

What do you personally love to do besides acting?

Cooking is one of my favorite things to do. I have a lot of cookbooks, and I love to make dinner for my family. When I was little, my dream was to be on Master Chef Junior. That never worked out, though.

What foods do you love? Which do you dislike?

I love all food, pretty much. Italian has always been my favorite, because I’m a big pasta fan. I don’t like mushrooms for some reason. If they are cooked right, they can be good, but I have a problem with the texture.

We hear you are a vegan. What made you decide to be one?

I did a movie called The Glass Castle over the summer, and Woody Harrelson played my dad. I became close with his family, and they inspired me to go from vegetarian to vegan. I watched a lot of documentaries and realized that this was the right thing to do. I do it for the animals; going vegan is the best decision I’ve ever made.

What would you say the fad is in your grade right now?

Everyone loves this app called TBH right now. I don’t have it, but all the kids at my school do. Lululemon is also a big deal and so is Vineyard Vines

Who is more mature, the boys in your grade at school or the boys on the show?

I think they are about the same.

Can you tell us something fun about a few of your Stranger Things cast members?

Noah and I have a dream of becoming food critics. When we go out to eat, we will try as much food as we can and then rate it out of ten. Gaten and I recently discovered we both loved High School Musical growing up, and now we sing a lot of duets together from it. Millie loves to sing, too, so we will constantly break out into song when we hang out.

What is one thing we don’t know about you, that we should?

I’m really into photography. I got a camera for my thirteenth birthday, and I’ve been obsessed ever since.

If you could put one quote on a t-shirt, what would it be?

“So Fetch.” – Gretchen Wieners

  1. With regard to Health and Safety, Bowling Shoes should be worn. She is obviously wearing inappropriate footwear and is likely to cause injury to herself.
