You know those flawlessly together mothers you see every now and then – looking gorgeous in no makeup, while pushing a stroller with one hand and carrying an irresistible tote in the other? After interviewing Brooklyn Decker we realized that, on top of her amazing acting and modeling career, she’s most definitely one of those Moms. More than that, though, she’s the kind of down to Earth woman we’ve always aspired to be, with kids or not. We chatted about her new platform Finery (live today!), how she gets her son to eat veggies, and the best ways to redecorate your home. Read below for our full interview; we know you’ll love Decker as much as we do….
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
I would start the day with a Migas Plate from Tacodeli in Austin; it’s a fast food(ish) Tex-Mex joint in Austin with delicious breakfast. I have it almost every day I am home. For lunch, I would beam myself to the North Carolina mountains and eat at the Canyon Kitchen food truck; they have canned rosé and delicious french fries, not to mention one of the best views in the world. For a late afternoon meal/snack, I would beam myself back to Austin and eat at Josephine House; it’s so charming and delicious. I would ask the chef to make me whatever he/she felt like, and I would booze. I would end the day at Uchiko: my favorite restaurant in the world, it’s “farm sushi.” I would order the Brussels Sprouts, the Uchi Salad, the Komaki Roll, Madai, and Suzuki pieces. And then I would sit there for an hour and order it all again.
How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
I’m a pescatarian, which helps. I also use the “Calm” app at night, which basically consists of you laying in bed while an adult reads you a bedtime story. It’s super creepy, but I always sleep like a baby, so I say it’s working.
What are your go-to workouts? What workouts do you find overrated?
I love anything involving the outdoors, like kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rock climbing, and trail running. I’m lucky to live in Austin where I have very easy access to all of that, and it’s an easy way for me to feel like I am doing something physical without spending hours inside.
What are your morning and nightly beauty regimens?
I love Sunday Riley Oils and IS Face Wash. I usually use both before work, especially if I am filming that day; they give my skin a nice boost. And you saw the above answer: I listen to grown men and women read me a bedtime story at night…so…
Favorite products to use to prep for a shoot?
What’s your perfect smoothie comprised of? Your perfect salad?
Um…salted caramel and ice cream? Does that count? My favorite salad just needs a carb. Any good salad has to have a carb or two.
Do you have a you personal mantra? What is it?
“Don’t be a dick.” It’s so much easier to be nice.
What are your favorite healthy snacks? Your son’s favorites?
I really do love healthy foods, and I am so lucky Hank does, too. We always have veggies, nuts, spreads, and fruits laying around the house.
Did you have any resolutions for 2017? Any advice you’d give to women trying to start a new routine?
Between filming, momm-ing, and starting a new tech company, keeping track of life can be a challenge. My business partner in Finery suggested that I mark all of my emails as read, delete all of my drafts, and my spam, and get my email box to “zero.” It has been a game changer. It took me about ten minutes, but now I don’t forget emails, things never get lost in the shuffle and an inbox with a “7” next to it seems much more manageable than a “12,037” next to it. My blood pressure instantly decreases, and I feel like I’m finally on top of things.
Any advice you’d give to new Moms?
It gets better and better and better and better. Every cliché is true. Your nipples will heal. Your boobs will not.
We know you’re very into home decor – any tips for brightening up our apartments?
Remove the curtains; people feel like they need them for some reason. As long as your windows are a decent size, or have some history to them, keep them bare and beautiful. Also, mirrors are your best friend.
A beauty mainstay that hasn’t changed since your teen years…
The Proactiv Purifying Mask always works as a spot treatment when I feel a zit starting to bloom.
What’s your idea of a perfect date night?
Sushi, wine, and long un-interrupted conversation. It’s such a rare treat these days.
