If you see us rocking a pair of ear muffs this winter, you can thank Billie Lourd for the inspiration (her character in Scream Queens, Chanel #3, is known for rocking them). There were many reasons we were excited to meet Lourd, all of which were amplified upon meeting her.
There are some women we meet that absolutely fit in with us potatoheads: huge foodies, big travel buffs, fashion obsessives; Lourd is one of them. Read below for her restaurant recommendations, which Instagram accounts to follow ASAP, and stories from the set of her Star Wars movie…
From start to finish what’s your ideal food day?
My ideal food day would probably start with breakfast at one of my favorite restaurants – Gjusta. I am passionately obsessed with their egg sandwich – it has pretty much all of my favorite foods on one beautiful English muffin – collard greens, bacon, avocado, hot sauce and a fried egg. How could you not start your day with that?!
After that I’d probably take a light nap then head to lunch at another one of my favorite restaurants in LA, Cha Cha Chicken. I looooove Caribbean food and am a self-proclaimed chicken connoisseur, and I must say they have the best jerk chicken I’ve ever had. My go-to dish is definitely the jerk chicken enchiladas. Sometimes I’ll branch out and go for the coconut fried chicken because it’s always hard to say no to a good fried chicken dish, but usually I stick with the enchiladas cause they’re INSANELY delish.
I’m also a huge fan of sushi (what sane person isn’t?!), so for dinner, I would go to my number one sushi spot – Kazu Nori. They have the BEST hand rolls ever. The rice is warm, the seaweed is crispy and the fish is supafresh.
What’s your ideal way to start the day?
Wake up. Play with my dog. Get an incredible brunch.
How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
I’m definitely not a believer in counting calories in any way shape or form. I’ve always loved food and have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of a diet. Food is life! So to make sure I can eat the way I do (aggressively), I have to balance it out with at least a litttttle exercise. I love doing yoga and for any of you 80’s fans out there, I’m not ashamed to say I do 8 minute abs at least twice a week (don’t judge me, I love the weird music and the guy’s encouraging 80’s trainer voice). I also take my French bulldog Tina on a solid run around my neighborhood every morning that I can.
What are your personal morning and nightly beauty routines?
I can’t wake up or go to sleep without washing my face. When I’m not working I rarely wear makeup, so when I do have to wear makeup, I take it off as soon as I can. I wash my face with a lightly exfoliating cleanser from Esthetic Underground and use salicylic acid acne cream because I’m definitely prone to breakouts. Whoever said pimples were only a thing for teenagers was slightly evil because they never really go away. When I do wear makeup, I use YSL touch éclat to conceal any pimples and also under my eyes. If I’m really feeling like stepping out, I love urban decay eye shadows and liners. And for mascara, I’m all about a good ole CoverGirl drug store vibe.
If you could host a dinner party with any five people living or dead who would be there? What would you cook?
David Bowie. Nick Hornby. Drake. Keith Richards. I would probably make fried chicken, mashed potatoes, baked beans and cornbread because comfort food brings any group of people together (and I’ve definitely chosen an eclectic bunch).
Anything surprising about your Scream Queens/Star Wars cast mates?
Both Scream Queens and Star Wars were definitely intimidating sets to walk on to as my first two jobs. I was honestly shocked at how kind and supportive both casts and crews were. Everyone had been in my position before and was very helpful and open with me. Also, Abigail Breslin recently started a lighter company…she’s a goddess.
Did you love Star Wars as a kid?
Surprisingly enough, I wasn’t that into Star Wars when I was young. I always told my mom it was “too loud,” but now I’m slightly obsessed. I actually randomly watched The Empire Strikes Back last night. Growing up, everyone used to always tell me how “cool” my mom was and I (as most kids) just saw her as my mom and was kind of embarrassed by it. But now, when I watch any of her movies I totally get it. I don’t think I’ll ever be as cool as she was and still is.
What you’re coveting right now…
What are some of your go to workouts?
Yoga, 8 minute abs, jogs with my dog, and don’t tell anyone, but SoulCycle is my guilty pleasure.
Any early memories of being around show business? What’s a favorite?
My parents actually tried their best to keep me away from show business – clearly they slightly failed….So my first real time on a movie or television set was when I worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I’d say my favorite memory on that set was singing Jersey Boys on the Millennium Falcon with other members of the “Resistance”. It was truly a beautiful/bizarre sight.
What is always in your fridge? your pantry?
It ice cream sandwiches, Salt & Straw ice cream, Annie’s mac and cheese, Amy’s frozen pizza, Teas’ tea jasmine green tea, yerba mate, parmesan cheese, honey, black beans, Jiffy cornbread. Sorry, not that sorry…don’t judge me.
Where do you love to travel? What won’t you travel without?
I am obsessed with traveling and I love to visit new places. Some of my go-to favorites are Big Sur, Cabo, New Orleans, and again, please try not to judge me, Las Vegas. When I travel, I always have to have a good pair of headphones and a great book to read.
What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on?
For my Dad’s 50th birthday, we went on a trip to India together. We went to Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur and Agra and managed to see 21 monuments in ten days. It was truly unforgettable.
The Instagram accounts you can’t live without…
Praisethelourd (obvi), Infatuation, Abbienormal9.
What are your favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you go to in each?
In the same vein as the new place in fashion? What’s the new potato right now?
Mashed? Au gratin?
