As aromatherapy becomes more mainstream, I’m happy to see more and more people turning to essential oils when considering treatment, whether in addition to or instead of conventional, western medication. Despite their hippy-dippy reputation, essential oils are scientifically proven to be effective methods of healing wide ranges of both physical and mental ailments and discomforts.
In addition to their seemingly endless health benefits and healing properties, using essential oils throughout your day can help clear your mind and boost your mood, relieve stress, or help you wind down and relax.
Below I’ve listed some of my favorite and most effective essential oils for daily use. Know that the world of essential oils is vast and most oils are packed with a variety of benefits, leading to a great deal of overlap, but these are fantastic to use as a starting point:
AM – For Clarity, Focus, Inspiration
- Citruses – Grapefruit, Lemon, Sweet Orange
These are great morning boosters and energizers when you’re in need a midday pick-me up. They can provide you with mental clarity and focus, combatting indecision and sharpening attention.
Midday / Evening – For Confidence, Grounding, Aphrodisiac
- Ylang Ylang
- Rose Geranium
I apply these for a bit of self-love and care. These oils enhance confidence before a big meeting, audition, or even a first date. They’re also great at tempering mood swings, and can act as an aphrodisiac or encourage desire.
PM – For Calming, Soothing, Exhaustion
- Clary Sage
- Roman Chamomile
Excellent oils for nighttime, these are perfect for when I need help relaxing. We all know our bodies and minds love to pour over every detail of our day or stress about tomorrow when we lay down to bed. These oils are best for calming exhaustion, nervousness, and anxiety.
