Every 30 days or so, the Sun visits a new zodiac sign. During this “season” everyone feels the energy of this prevailing astrological energy, no matter what your Sun sign. Taurus is the first of the zodiac’s three grounded earth signs and part of the stabilizing “fixed” quality. As the zodiac’s second sign, Taurus is the persistent provider who also loves life’s earthly pleasures. During Taurus season, we ought to remind ourselves that slow and steady wins the race until May 20. This sign encourages us to break our work into simple steps then take daily action.
Ruled by the hardworking Bull and sensual Venus, Taurus will patiently assess whether something is worth the investment of their time and resources. Chief among the traits of a Taurus is their built-in energy conservation program. Taurus energy can be as sensual and elegant as it is overindulgent and lazy. These dynamics will prevail in all of us over the next month.
As the fast and furious astrological season of aggressive, me-first Aries draws to a close, Taurus season turns our attention to building. We’ve had great ideas, but can they go the distance? Taurus takes charge to help us slow our roll, prompting us to roll up our sleeves and craft a tangible sustainability plan.
Productivity reigns supreme now, as the Taurus Sun restores some much-needed order to our courts. During the exhilarating-yet-exhausting Aries season, the last four weeks have been anything but boring! But we could all use a moment to catch a breath and find our focus once again.
Here are five ways to embrace the pace of the Bull from now until May 20.
1. Slow your roll.
…but know when to charge like a Bull! Taurus energy is mostly grounding, cultivating a sense of ease and contentment. Unless, that is, we find ourselves getting worked up about something…then the proverbial steam will start to pour out of our ears! During Taurus season, don’t rush or skimp on the practicalities of any plan. With a sensible sign like Taurus at the helm, we need to carefully consider every detail, ensuring a high-quality and elegant outcome. For the past four weeks, Aries season has been stoking our creativity and originality, but now, the rubber meets the road. Which of these innovative Ram-spurred visions can we actually bring to life now? Don the project manager’s fedora and add some practical magic to the recipe. Take life at a much slower and more productive pace for the next four weeks, making time to enjoy the little things!
2. Explore your sensual side.
Taurus is ruled by sensual Venus, which (thankfully!) turned direct on April 15th after a frustrating six-week retrograde. Through earthy, grounded Taurus, love planet Venus expresses her yin, or feminine, qualities. Said another way, this is the aspect of Venus that rules our receptivity. Ask yourself: What do I need in order to feel happy, fulfilled and loved? How can I be more open to receiving, especially pleasure? While the moon governs our emotional security, Venus is more about the wining and dining aspect. When was the last time you gave yourself a seductive once-over in the mirror and tended to your sensual side? While adding more decadence is always a go during Taurus time, it’s not required. Simply by slowing down (see item #1) and being present, you’ll soak more enjoyment out of every moment, no matter what you’re doing. Taurus also rules the five senses. Incorporate more scent, touch (massage, hugs, affection), taste, visual beauty and music into your world.
3. Treat yourself—mindfully.
With decadent Venus as the planetary guardian for Taurus, we might lean toward excess and overindulgence during this phase. Consider the possibility of “practical hedonism” even if that sounds like an oxymoron. Simplify anything that’s become too complex—but not at the expense of quality! Tasteful Taurus loves life’s finer things, but frowns on flashiness and waste. The paradox of Taurus season is that while we are shifting our focus to security-minded strategies and better budgeting, we can also spend our money and resources recklessly. Enjoy life’s pleasures, but do so mindfully, or with a practical purpose. For example, you could invest in your health with a spa day or say, by joining that new boutique fitness studio with the crystal-embedded floor. (Yes, that really exists.)
4. Speak your truth.
Taurus rules the neck, throat and jaw, which means our throat chakras could all use a little tune-up during this solar cycle. Try some yoga poses to open the throat or even a guided meditation to help you speak your truth—especially if you’re still honing in on what that is. Pay attention to your thyroid health (women especially) and even get yours checked if your energy’s been chronically low. (Check out the work of Dr. Aviva Romm for a natural take on thyroid and adrenal healing.)
If words escape you, unleash your pent-up vocal pressure with karaoke or even a primal scream.Nothing wrong with belting out your favorite ballads in the car either! 5. Stick to your guns, but don’t forget to compromise.
There’s a fine line between loyalty and stubbornness, and it’s one that gets easily trampled during Taurus season. The shadow side of rooted Taurus energy can mean we get stuck in our comfort zones and habits. It’s possible that you’re just really, really committed to following your path—and this determined drive can be great. But once we make up our minds and get moving in a certain direction during Taurus season, there’s no stopping us! Watch out for resistance to changes. If your perfectly calculated plans hit a snag, trust in the process instead of freaking out. After all, life is always going to be full of curveballs that shake things up for us at a moment’s notice. Let go of any attachments to a particular outcome during Taurus season and roll with the punches. Clinging to the things that we can’t control only leads to self-imposed suffering. Life—and Taurus season—is way too short for that!
