The Perfect Oatmeal

When it comes to our breakfasts, we tend to choose the same staples over and over again. Think strong black coffee, some fresh fruit and our favorite: oatmeal. We know, it sounds boring, but oatmeal really is the best breakfast in the game. It is full of fiber to keep you feeling full, aids in weight loss, is supremely heart healthy and can be jazzed up in literally hundreds of ways. We like to make a big batch on Sunday’s and reheat throughout the week with different add-in’s. Our go-to? The simple recipe below, because nothing beats the classics. Trust us, this is the breakfast update you’ve been waiting for….

1 c. raw oats

1 3/4 c. water

Fruit (we like 1/2 of a banana and 1/2 c. blueberries or strawberries)

1-2 tablespoons of nuts or chia seeds (optional, they provide a nice crunch)

1 teaspoon natural sweetener (honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, agave, etc.)

Fun toppings like: 1 teaspoon coconut flakes, 1 teaspoon almond butter, 1 teaspoon goji berries, etc.

Stir 1 cup of raw oats into 1 3/4 cup of boiling water. Let simmer for 1 minute, until water has absorbed. Cover and set aside for a few minutes. Cut up bananas, blueberries, and any other fruit you desire. You can also add nuts or chia seeds for a little crunch. Add a splash of your favorite natural sweetener. We like honey, but maple syrup is delicious as well. Enjoy!
