Actress Michelle Monaghan

If we’ve learned anything from Michelle Monaghan, it’s that A. we want to look like her (and that includes coloring our hair), and B. being a mom doesn’t have to be boring. Take her parenting advice, for example: “Disturb the peace.” Sounds more like awesome life advice, doesn’t it?

Monaghan is definitely one for the Woman Crush Wednesday ages (even though it’s not Wednesday), which is why we plugged her for the best dinner party menu recommendations (guacamole anyone?), workout routines and beauty mainstays. This is the #MondayMotivation you need this morning.

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

If my stomach were a bottomless pit, it would include coffee, grapefruit juice, blueberry ricotta pancakes, sausage, arugula salad with lemon and parmesan, rib eye and sautéed spinach with garlic, and creme bruleè.

How do you practice beauty from the inside out?

I meditate, drink tons of water, hike, run and do Pilates. I’m also a big sleeper. I’d sleep ten hours a night if I could, but that very rarely happens, of course.

What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?

My routine is incredibly simple. I use face wash, toner, moisturizer, eye cream and sunscreen all by my extraordinary facialist, Biba de Sousa.

What are your go-to workouts? What workouts do you find overrated?

I love running. I try to run a half marathon once a year, which keeps me in pretty good shape. My dream is to run the NYC Marathon. I can’t get into yoga, which means it’s something I probably need to do the most!

Is there anything you don’t like to eat or drink? What foods do you find are best and worst for skin?

Water, water and more water or rosè! I don’t drink sodas. I eat most anything although I rarely have dairy these days.

What are your favorite healthy snacks?

Seaweed, salted almonds, raspberries, dried mango, and Kind bars…they’re healthy, right!?!

What do you always put out when hosting a dinner party? What do you bring to one as a guest?

Margaritas and guacamole (I make a mean one!). I like to bring candles or a tray that my husband designed called “le petit dej.” It’s a perfect hostess gift.

Words to both act and eat by…

Everything in moderation. And sometimes not.

What won’t you travel without?

A Cashmere scarf or a sweater.

What’s your makeup routine if you’re getting a bit more dressed up than usual?

Red lipstick and mascara.

What’s your favorite meal to make with your family?

Homemade pizzas!

How do you always start your day? What’s your go-to breakfast?

Eggs or granola and yogurt. I love oatmeal with the fixings too!

Any advice you’d give to new Moms?

“This too shall pass” and also stop cleaning up your kids’ messes and make messes with them! Get dirty, paint, roll around in the grass. I remind myself of that constantly. Instead of keeping the peace all the time, disturb the peace! YOU be the rascal!

If you could host a dinner party with any five people living or dead, who would be there? What would you cook?

Anthony Bourdain, Dolly Parton, Shirley MaClaine, my hubby Peter White, and Robert Downey, Jr. I’d make grilled lamb chops with a side of scalloped potatoes with fennel and Parmesan. For dessert, I’d make pumpkin bread pudding with caramel sauce – a specialty.
