How To Accentuate Your Cheekbones

First of all, you really need to know what kind of face shape you have. When you know that, it makes it much easier to apply the techniques to your own face, and is important to know because accentuating your cheekbones is not the same as contouring.

While contouring is giving and creating a new face shape, accentuating is just enhancing your own beauty. You can accentuate in different ways, or you can add some shadow or a highlighter – or both – depending on what occasion it is.

Always ask yourself: How do I want to look? Where am I going? What will the lighting be?

My favorite way to enhance your cheekbones is using blush or bronzer. Since it’s summer I’ve included tips for highlighting to create a summer glow – because who doesn’t want a summer glow?

There are so many different colors and textures for blush, so what I said earlier about asking yourself what look you want before starting is important! Ask yourself, “Is my skin oily, or super dry?” For summer, I love to use a creme blush because you can blend that together with your tinted moisturizer or foundation.

My favorites are Vincent Longo Water Canvas Blush, and MAC cosmetics. For powder, my all-time favorite is Orgasm from Nars. Charlotte Tilbury also has beautiful powder blushes.

You can apply this on the apple of the cheek or as a little pop. Blush should make you happy; when we wear blush, we feel good.

Now for bronzers…Bronzers are about looking like you’ve been kissed by the sun. So, with a bronzer you can create soft contouring and a sun-kissed look.

One of my favorites is Tan de Soleil from Chanel, which is cream based. It’s definitely a must-have!

Bronzers come in different colors form golden to really orange. I really love matte ones because then you can use it to also correct. Laguna from Nars, Benefit Hoola Bronzer, Two Faced and Guerlain are well known for their bronzers.

Applying bronzer depends on your face shape. Always remember, if you want to look a little slimmer, apply it more on the hallow of your cheekbone and on your temples. If there is a little bit left on the makeup brush, brush it over your nose. And remember, blending your makeup is the key to success!

If it doesn’t go right the first time, just take off the makeup and start again. If you want to experiment and you have something important on, do a practice run on a Saturday morning. Take a mirror and sit in front of your window. This is great because you can take time for yourself and you also will have the best light.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronzer has a bronzer and a highlighter in one, and a really good mirror. It is a makeup artist favorite.

Now, let’s talk about highlighter. Powders are very trendy right now, but I believe that if you feel good and you have good energy and you shine, that’s already your biggest highlighter! You can choose a creme texture or a powder highlighter for this step.

Another good tip: If you like to use cream products, use this before powders. Always end your makeup routine with powders.

Becca Cosmetics is know for their highlighters; my favorite is the shimmering skin perfector. It is cream-based and has this beautiful sheen and glow. I also love Anastasia Beverly Hills for their highlighters. Every brand has a highlighter in its collection. Highlighter sticks are also very good, and if you really want to feel high fashion, get Pat McGrath’s Skinfetish collection. They are beautiful, trendy, and the best quality.
