Tony Nominee Megan Hilty

We know…we’re super tight with Tony Award nominees…don’t hate us. There was Phillipa Soo and Renée Elise Goldsberry from Hamilton, Laura Benanti from She Loves Me, and today Megan Hilty from Noises Off…we’re pretty sure we were triple threat theater stars in a past life but that’s besides the point (well at least, we’ll get back to that later). Not only is Hilty nominated for her role in Noises Off, but she was also just cast in TV Land’s remake of First Wives Club, a childhood mainstay of ours. Hilty is the Broadway phenom worth talking to, and turns out she loves tater tots, organic skincare and adult coloring books. Read on…

From start to finish what would be your ideal food day?

Ideally, I would be eating tater tots and pizza from the moment I wake up until right before I go to bed. Alas, I am an actress and have to kind of take care of myself. So, I usually have eggs with spinach and feta for breakfast, and a salad for lunch and chicken or fish for dinner. Oh – and coffee! I drink way too much coffee!

How do you practice beauty from the inside out?

I feel the most beautiful when I am hydrated and well-rested. I’m pretty good about drinking plenty of water, but I am a working mother of a small child in NYC, so I’m not doing so great in the sleep department.

What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?

When I was pregnant, I was sort of forced to look at the ingredients in every product I used and was shocked at some of the things I was putting on my skin. Ever since then, I’ve become obsessed with the organic skincare products I now use on a daily basis. I love Dr. Hauschka products – I use the calming milk cleansertoner, eye balm and day cream. I just fell in love with Erin’s Faces Rose Quench Serum – I use it twice a day. I also have very pale skin so I have to use my Goddess Garden organic sunscreen every day.

What foods and drinks are best and worst for your voice?

Keeping a healthy voice is all about hydration, so water is the best and anything that dehydrates (caffeinated beverages, menthol and alcohol) I try to avoid… except for coffee. My healthy-voice-secret-weapon is hot water with a melted Ricola and a scoop of coconut oil.

Where do you love to travel? What won’t you travel without?

I love going to Hawaii. There’s something magical about that place that forces you to slow down. Lately I won’t travel without headphones, an adult coloring book and a toothbrush.

What can’t you stop listening to right now?

My friend, Matt Cusson just came out with a new single “Only Human”. It’s amazing and it’s got everyone very excited about his new album coming out in the fall!

What would your last meal be? Who would it be with?

My last meal would be at Quality Meats in NYC with my husband and my daughter.

How do you always start your day? What’s your go to breakfast?

Some sort of egg dish – usually an omelette with spinach and feta – and coffee. Have I mentioned that I drink too much coffee?

Restaurants in Times Square that aren’t so square…

My husband and I love going to Westbank Cafe on 42nd street.  We go to The Palm a lot too. We met at Lillie’s on 49th street, so we go there whenever we can too. We even had our NYC wedding reception there!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? The worst?

Best: “Always keep a little cash on hand in case of an emergency” – my Mom.

Worst:  “You haven’t really experienced NYC until you’ve gone to Times Square on New Year’s Eve…or the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade…or SantaCon” – People who don’t live in NYC.

In the same vein as what is the new black in fashion, what’s the new potato right now?

Auto-Tune is the new I-worked-really-really-hard-for-years-to-become-a-great-singer.
