RHONYC’s Bethenny Frankel

The Housewives of Manhattan are at it again: Yup, Real Housewives of New York returns again tonight on Bravo and so does our favorite realist: Bethenny Frankel. Frankel brings true realism to a “reality” show, therefore she’s the “housewife” we always like to catch up with. This time we chatted about dating apps, holding people accountable and why women multitask more than men…

Being on RHONYC, how would you respond to people that say women should build one another up?

You get to a certain age and you understand women so much better. Through health issues, motherhood, divorces, financial issues, relationship challenges and aging, you have compassion for other women and you best build them up.

We just made a video that makes fun of how swiping on dating apps makes you miss men in real life. Would you agree with this in terms of dating?

I think swiping in dating is the modern version of scanning a room for who you connect with.

What do you like to think you bring to the cast? Does working allow for more balance and perspective when on the show?

I hold everyone accountable. I am an open book, so I think that can be disarming and bring out a lot of the unexpected. People say I bring humor and Andy Cohen says I’m the “Greek chorus.”

In being an entrepreneur, do you find there’s still a lot of work to be done in terms of women in the working world?

I don’t believe in separating men and women. Be better than the men. We multitask so much more; we go through PMS and childbirth. We can handle anything.

What is the app you can’t live without and why?

I’m digging Snapchat tremendously right now. That is my wheelhouse.

What do you do to decompress? Why is it important for everyone to do so sometimes?

Yoga is my salvation, my therapy and my calm. Skinnygirl cocktails don’t hurt in chilling out either.

You always say to practice balance; can you give us a typical balanced day of eating on your end?

This is what my book Naturally Thin is about. There is no “typical day” and diet books try to jam you into one. Yesterday, it was a bagel, egg white and cheese omelet, and veggie sausage for breakfast. Today it may be coffee and a Skinnygirl Chocolate Peanut Butter with Sea Salt bar and a Skinnygirl Protein Shake. Tomorrow it may be a PMS piece of chocolate cake. Your diet is a bank account. Listen to what you want and never binge.

How do you always start your day? What’s your breakfast?

It differs every day based on alcohol content the night before, what a green room at a talk show may have, or how badly I want to stay in bed.

What’s your perfect smoothie comprised of?

Skinnygirl Chocolate Protein Shake, a frozen banana, ice, some water and a squeeze of Skinnygirl Stevia. Divinity.

If you could host a dinner party with any five people living or dead, who would be there? What would you cook?

Mark Zuckerberg, Charles Barkley, Chelsea Handler, Seth MacFarlane, Jimmy Kimmel and Elon Musk. That’s six. Chelsea and I could handle all the men.
