We didn’t grow up in Beverly Hills, but we feel like we grew up with Tori Spelling. 90210…hello? The show was the making of our childhood as well as our penchant for bad boys like Dylan McKay versus good boys like Brandon Walsh. Last night, Spelling’s cooking channel special – Tori & Dean’s Spring Picnic premiered, where Spelling and her family prepared picnic classics with a vintage twist. Food and a childhood television mainstay? We didn’t need to be convinced to chat with Tori Spelling…
What would be your ideal food day?
In my ideal fantasy world, this is what my food day would look like:
Breakfast: Homemade corned beef hash with truffle hash browns and ketchup on the side and avocado toast with sea salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon.
Lunch: Iceberg lettuce salad with garbanzo and kidney beans, sliced hardboiled egg, shredded cheddar, crumbled feta, baby corns, sliced beets, sliced hearts of palm, bacon bits, and a creamy red wine vinaigrette, with a cup of split pea soup with ham on the side.
Dinner: Pappardelle pasta with a short rib ragu and fresh parmesan, with a side of garlic broccoli rabe.
How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
With four kids, it’s hard to make me time. Cooking is a way I can make fresh homemade food, involve my babes, and also try to eat healthy myself. We recently started growing our own veggies and herbs in our backyard, so being able to have fresh vegetables for meals, snacks, and juicing has really been amazing! We also have backyard chickens, and the fresh eggs are unbelievable! I also love just getting the kids outdoors to play games, craft and do fun scavenger hunts. Usually my exercise is running around with them. When we go to indoor and outdoor playgrounds, I’m probably the only Mom that’s actually on or in the play structures crawling and climbing right behind the toddlers! They think I’m just a big kid.
Your morning and nightly beauty routines…
I recently started using Josie Maran beauty products and I’m obsessed! And they are all organic, which is great.
In the morning, I start with Josie Maran Argan exfoliating cleansing powder followed by Josie Maran Nirvana Hydrating Treatment Mist. Then, I put my Daily Total contacts in with Bausch + Lomb Bio True multi-purpose eye solution. I start my routine with a few drops of Botanical Beauty Organic Japanese Camellia Seed Oil all over my face (this is amazing, light, can be used on face, body, and hair and can be kept in purse – it’s a small bottle). Next, I put a few drops of Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk on my face and rub in, followed by a little ultra-lightweight moisturizing oil all over, including my neck. Then, I follow with Meda Skin by Launa Stone R.N. Enlighten Me Eye Rehab cream dabbed around and under my eyes gently with my fingertips. Lastly, I use Josie Maran Argan Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30 and Cle de Peau concealer (my favorite concealer of all time!).
At night, I start with my favorite makeup wipes by Neutrogena and then Femme Couture oil-free and gentle eye makeup remover (if I have mascara and eye makeup on). Next, I use my Josie Maran Argan exfoliating cleansing powder (just add warm water). Then, I use Eve Hansen Vitamin C serum on my face, followed by some Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk and a few drops of Josie Maran light Argan oil on my face and neck, and next Josie Maran Infinity Intensive Creamy Oil (all over my face and neck but a little goes a long way). Lastly, I remove my contacts and then I apply my EPIONE BH eye cream from Dr. Simon Ourian M.D. While I’m in bed, I apply Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil ultra-hydrating body butter.

The 90210 cast members you’ll still have dinner with…where do you go?
Jennie (Garth). Sushi.
What’s the biggest dinner party faux pas?
Not bringing a hostess gift (traditions can be modernized but are the best).
Some go-to easy weeknight recipes for your kids…
The crock pot! We make stews, chili, and chicken and dumplings just to name a few.
What’s your advice for new Moms?
Don’t take others’ advice! It becomes so overwhelming. Listen to yourself. Your own mothering instincts are the best for your baby!
How do you always start your day?
I kiss my husband.
Your go-to quick lunch spots in LA and NYC…
What’s the ingredient you can’t live without? The one that’s overrated?
Ingredient I can’t live without: Lawry’s Seasoning Salt. Overrated: Fennel
In the same vein as what is the new black in fashion, what’s the new potato right now? (can be in any industry)
Savory yogurts, maple water (I’m obsessed), and I eat avocados everyday (also obsessed). They are my go-to since I was a kid. Now, it’s smoking avocados – just a great new taste to a classic obsession!
