Okay potatoheads, a new column and Instagram party has officially begun and it’s called #yournewpotato. Each week, we’ll be picking our favorite Instagram to post on our site AND Instagram, that answers the question “What’s your new potato?” Just make sure to tag us @thenewpotato and use the hashtag #yournewpotato.
From Hamilton the musical to poke bowls and fur loafers, your new potato can be absolutely anything -and we want to know what it is! Our first winner is Marian Cheng @mmcheng (follow her now), who posted a delectable egg sandwich photo this week. She’s also one of the awesome sisters behind Mimi Cheng’s, one of our favorite dumpling spots in NYC.
Read below for her answers to classic TNP questions and of course, just why this egg sandwich is her newest potato…
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
I start off the day with one or two almond milk matcha(s), a hearty and balanced breakfast with fruit, eggs and carbs, acai bowl from Cafe Henrie (obsessed with passion fruit), a salad from Sweetgreen, fresh-out-of-the-oven brioche from Il Buco Alimentari or Aux Merveilleux de Fred, Mimi Cheng’s dumplings some time during the day, an extra crispy spicy pepperoni square slice from Prince Street Pizza, and a dinner with a delicious red sauce pasta, seafood or Mediterranean! When I’m treating myself, the night will end with pistachio gelato (A.B. Biagi is my go-to).
How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
I’ve found the importance of drinking loads of water, which isn’t innate to me. Something as simple as adding fresh lemon juice to water makes me hydrate that much more. I try to eat as much organic food as possible, especially with eggs, milk, fruit and vegetables. Another priority for me is staying active. Getting work out clothes that make me feel good motivates me to work out more. I like to attend a variety of classes to keep challenging my body. Some of my favorites are Barry’s Bootcamp, KORE method, and this morning I just discovered Aerospace and love it now.
What is this delicious looking egg sandwich, where’d you get it, and why’s it #yournewpotato?
This egg sandwich was from my recent jaunt to Tilda All Day in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. It was incredible! It had soft-scrambled eggs with scallions, aged cheddar, avocado and a paprika tomato spread on a poppy seed bun. Everything melded together perfectly and I am still dreaming of it!
