LaLa Anthony first popped up on our radar as a VJ on MTV’s TRL (Total Request Live). Since then, she’s launched her own clothing line, and authored The Power Playbook: Rules for Independence, Money and Success, all while cheering on her husband, NBA star Carmelo Anthony. We talked with LaLa about workouts, sushi, and her love of Oprah…
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
For breakfast, Ezekiel cereal with rice milk. For lunch, salad with grilled chicken or shrimp. For dinner, baked chicken and a vegetable. Snacks would be a protein shake and fruit, and I would drink as much water as possible.
How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
For me, I have learned consistency is key. I love to do boxing and cardio. I try to focus more on what I’m putting in my body and not just eating everything because I want it, but if I do want it I just have a taste!
What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?
I am big fan of Tracie Martyn products. I use her cleanser and moisturizer every morning. At night I wash off all my makeup and use her cleanser and night cream. I don’t overdo it with products, but the most important thing is to take that makeup off at night!
What would your last meal be? Who would it be with?
I am huge sushi lover, so a big sushi spread and for dessert something chocolate – probably a molten chocolate cake. It might be cliché, but I am in awe of Oprah, so it would have to be her. I would love to sit down with her in a casual and intimate setting, pick her brain about building a brand, and just get her thoughts and opinions on so many things.
What won’t you travel without?
Neutrogena makeup wipes. I use them to wipe my face during the day, remove makeup, and freshen up – pretty much for everything! Also, having a kid, I will not travel without hand sanitizer.
What’s always in your bag?
Carmex for my lips, hand sanitizer and a nice pair of sunglasses.
How do you stay fresh on planes?
The trend you’re loving right now…
I’m loving that this winter people are experimenting with bold colors, not just the usual black and grey muted tones.
How do you always start your day?
I always say a prayer for another day and then brush my teeth and check on my son.
Your idea of the perfect smoothie…
Strawberry, almond butter and banana
Workouts we should all try in 2016…
I am dying to try the trampoline workout.
Healthy foods we should all start making in 2016…
More plant-based proteins – foods made from beans, peas, lentils and nuts.
If you could host a dinner party with any five people, living or dead, who would be there? What would you make?
Lasagna, because it’s one of the only things I know how to make really well! I’d invite Nas (my favorite rapper of all time); Oprah Winfrey, because I admire and look up to her; Basquiat, as I am fascinated by his work and vision; my husband Carmelo Anthony, because I love him and he’s very knowledgeable on a lot of things (which is great for dinner conversation), and Martin Luther King Jr. I would love to get his perspective on what life was really like when he was around and how he stayed so strong.
