2 Great Immune-Boosting Recipes

January, Banuary, Awards-Show Season – whatever you choose to call it – it’s officially here. There is one other name you forgot to mention – flu season. Now that the holiday party adrenaline has subsided, people are dropping left and right. This bleak stretch of cold weather we have coming up offers no reason to fight off the impending doom whether it be a case of the stomach bug or good old fashioned head cold.

But that is where you are wrong fellow potato-heads. There are ski trips to be skied, snowball fights in central park to be fought and not to mention all those cozy, fireside drinks to be drunk. What we really need now is to arm our immune system against the struggle of subway germs. One of our favorite nutritionists, Mikaela Reuben, gave two amazing recipes to help naturally boost your immune system. One can even be used as an appetizer at your upcoming award-show fete!

Horseradish Beet Dip

5 small beets

Freshly grated horseradish (as much as you can handle)

½ cup of cashew nuts (soaked in water for 6 hours), blended with filtered water until smooth

Salt, pepper, pressed garlic, and lemon juice (to taste)

Peel beets and chop into small pieces and steam for about 15 minutes. Beet is done when it can be easily pierced with a fork.

Add cashew cream, salt, pepper, garlic, lemon juice, and horseradish in a food processor along with slightly cooled beet. Blend until desired consistency is reached.

Serve cold with veggies, crackers, bread etc.
