New Year, New Faces

It’s a new year, and that means a slew of new up-and-comers that inspire us on a day-to-day basis. Each week in January, we’ll be revealing five new faces who are making us excited for 2016. Whether they are the newest face of a fashion campaign, the designer behind one, a fitness instructor with a rabid following, or New York’s hottest new restaurateur, young tastemakers about to explode onto the scene make us excited to come to work each day. Here’s who’s up first…

Kelsey & Baylee Soles, Models

Sister models…we likey. And these two gals aren’t just sisters, they’re twins. 2015 was a big year for the Soles; one that included campaigns with Calvin Klein and Lanvin, and runway shows for Saint Laurent. In 2016, we’re pretty sure they’ll be the next big thing. What is it they say? Two is better than one…obviously.

Baylee Soles

Your ideal food day…

My ideal food day would consist of thousands of crispy oven-roasted kabocha squash (Japanese pumpkin), acai bowls, watermelon, whole fried fish, crispy Brussels sprouts, portobello mushroom steaks, and some ahi tuna. I’m a pretty healthy eater, especially since Kelsey and I gave up all refined sugars when we were like fifteen or sixteen, so I crave relatively healthy foods. If this was my ideal food day then I would be eating on a patio in the Caribbean, listening to old Ciara songs. I think Gordon Ramsey and Guy Fieri would also be there too because I’m a big fan.

Your goal for 2016…

I want to focus on achieving more of a work-life balance, as I am usually constantly thinking about work. I also want to be more patient and grow my relationships with the people around me. And I would like to learn the dance from Ciara’s “Ride” music video.

You won’t travel without…

My credit card and my Ninja food processor.

You can’t live without…

My BFF and main “homie”, Kelsey.

If you could be anyone for a day, it would be…

Guy Fieri. He just looks so jolly!

Your personal definition of beauty…

To me, beauty is a good hair day, a clear sunset, and a smile. There ya go.

The splurge you always allow yourself…

Massages…I try to get one every month! We love going to Naturopathica Spa over in Chelsea

Your saving grace beauty product…

CeraVe and organic coconut oil.

Something no one knows about your sister…

She’s obsessed with oral hygiene…she loves to floss.

Your ideal food day…

I rarely eat out, but my ideal day of eating would be to go to Egg Shop in Nolita and get their scrambler with a side of smoked salmon, kale salad, and fruit, all topped off with a large almond milk latte! Then, for lunch I would go somewhere casual like Dig Inn at their Hudson Street location. I would get the steak, with tons of sides, such as their kale and squash, Brussels sprouts, roasted carrots, and their winter squash with tahini. For dinner Baylee and I would likely wander to Dimes for the sweet chili salmon with cauliflower, kale, and beet puree.

Your goal for 2016…

My goal for 2016 is to be more spontaneous and learn how to relax. I have a really “go, go, GO!” mindset (kind of like New York) so it would be cool to learn how to relax for a moment without feeling like I need to do something at every moment. I would also really enjoy doing some kind of collaboration with Baylee.

You can’t live without…

Baylee, Ninja food processor, family, floss, Chapstick, contact solution, and food.

If you could be anyone for a day, it would be…

Guy Fieri. I mean look at his job….

Your personal definition of beauty…

Someone with confidence who has the ability to bring out others’ smiles, as well as their own!

The Instagram account you can’t live without…

Beyond my sister’s, @90ssupermodelsdaily, because nineties are FOREVER.

Your saving grace beauty product…

The first is coconut oil – I use it for everything! My skin, face, and hair. And the second is lemon juice. Mixed with baking soda and applied to the skin, it helps get rid of scarring and evens your skin tone while drying out blemishes.

Something no one knows about your sister…

She was the president of our middle school! #VoteForBayleeAndGetKrunkDaily

Akin Akman, Senior SoulCycle Instructor

Akman is a Senior SoulCycle instructor and IMG model, also known as the founder of Akin’s Army. He’s got a serious “army” of followers and has trained everyone from Karlie Kloss to Tommy Hilfiger – and that also includes playing tennis against Nadal in this year’s US Open Campaign. The new one to watch? We think so.

Your ideal food day…

Breakfast with eggs in the morning, followed by smaller meals and definitely smoothies throughout the day to keep me fueled in between my workouts. I often teach thirty-eight (plus) classes per week…

Your goal for 2016 is…

Continue to work and keep taking what I love to new heights; all of this while keeping a strong foundation with my family and close friends.

You take care of your body because…

You only have one body. It is capable of doing so much for a very long time.

The food no one should ever eat again…

Fried foods.

Your childhood hero…

Superman, Pete Sampras and my Mom.

Best advice you’ve received…

Be your own hero.

chloe-coscarelli

Chloe Coscarelli, Co-Owner/Chef, by CHLOE

Coscarelli exploded onto the food scene in 2015 with her new plant-based, vegan restaurant by CHLOE, located in the heart of the West Village. The neighborhood has already become addicted to her house-made treats, vegan cheeses and nut milks, and she’s set to open two more locations in Nolita and Flatiron in the next few months. This is great healthy-eating-out…

Your ideal food day…

Is a day where avocado is incorporated into breakfast, lunch, dinner…and dessert!

Your goal for 2016 is…

To work on saying no to things I know I cannot commit to, and being more sensitive to my personal time management.

The ingredient that makes everything better…

Coconut milk in every form.

Your last meal would be…

Vegan mac and cheese, with extra shiitake bacon.

It’s not a meal without…

Chocolate

If you could be anyone for a day, who would it be?

Mindy Kaling

The splurge you always allow yourself…

Dessert for breakfast.

Best advice you’ve received…

Focus on the product; the rest will follow.

isa-tapia-2016-2

Isa Tapia, Women’s Footwear Designer

After a Parson’s School of Design education, and working for legends like Marc Jacobs and Oscar De La Renta, Tapia scooted onto the fashion scene in 2012 with serious standout footwear. As one of members of the elite CFDA incubator class of 2014-2016, she’s set to “graduate” this year and is already taking the fashion world by storm. We’re addicted to her beautiful and well-priced designs, and can’t believe we’ve waited so long to chat with her…

Your ideal food day…

Breakfast at Marlton, which would consist of avocado toast and soft boiled eggs along with a strong iced cappuccino. Lunch at Sant Ambroeus in Soho; the Tagliatelle a la Bolognese is so sinful and delicious. Dinner at my favorite place on earth, Lucien. I always get the roasted chicken flushed down with a decadent bordeaux and draw on the table cloth with the bin of crayons. Blue Ribbon Sushi as a snack somewhere in between or for the next five days after to counter all the sins of that one day!

Your goal for 2016 is…

To break out of my office vortex more and really get out there and do more! More museums, more interaction with inspiring people, more conversations on current culture, more inspiration, more lunches, more dinners, more dancing…more living!

If you could be anyone for a day, who would it be?

Brigitte Bardot in St Tropez in the sixties with that body and that face – and those times, that freedom and all those lovers!

The luxury you refuse to live without…

A California King overflowing with down duvets and way too many pillows.

Your current mood…

Daydreaming

Best advice you’ve received…

“Sleep on it and get back to me tomorrow” and “Trust your instincts”

You won’t travel without…

My cashmere socks and my Breakfast at Tiffanys eye mask

Your personal definition of beauty…

Monica Vitti sexy – real and a bit wild. For me, there has to be something off or imperfect in beauty for it to be attractive and alluring.
