Camila Alves

Camila Alves only further proves our point that not only does everybody have to eat, but that the coolest people love doing just that. Alves’ new online show – Camila’s Code – is an ode to her love for cooking, where she shares recipes she makes for her three children with husband Matthew McConaughey. It’s no surprise we also caught up with Alves on all things beauty, wellness and lifestyle. Let’s just say we’re kind of having a woman-crush-Wednesday moment…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

Ginger tea in the morning, followed by egg whites with bacon, spinach, tomatoes and green olives. For lunch, vegetable salad with tuna fish. For dinner, steak, rice and beans.

How do you always start your day?

With three kids, I hit the ground running. I’m lucky if I get a full night of sleep between the three of them. I often end up hitting the snooze button, so I’m lucky if I get to brush my hair in the morning!

Is there anything you don’t like to eat or drink? What foods do you find are best and worst for skin?

I really don’t like salmon. I can cook a great one, but I can’t eat it! I find that fish, avocado, avocado oil and coconut oil are most important, and tons of water. Did you know that you’re supposed to drink half of your weight in ounces of water per day?! As for the bad, I love chocolate but I see changes in my skin right away if I have a lot of it.

What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?

In the mornings I don’t really have a routine as I mention above; it depends on what happens with the kids! I always use the Omega oil from NUDE, Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and Bobbi Brown bronzer for contouring. At night I use the Clarasonic brush and different kinds of cleansers such as Mila Moursi and the NUDE oil again before going to bed.

What’s your favorite meal to make with your family?

My favorite dish to make is Brazilian style Stroganoff and Brazilian style lasagna – and it happens to be one of my kids favorites as well. I just made this dish on my online show Camila’s Code. Check it out on my Facebook page!

What is a restaurant you and Matthew enjoy going to on date night? What’s your favorite dish there?

Uchi Sushi in Austin, TX. My favorite dish is Madai sushi and the peanut butter semifredo dessert

Your favorite special thing you do together yearly? Any traditions?

Deliver meals to elders in need with Meals on Wheels on Thanksgiving and decorate our Christmas tree!

Where do you love to travel? What won’t you travel without?

Back to Brazil! I get to go back to my roots and see family and friends who I don’t get to see that often. I won’t travel with out my favorite cozy scarf. It just keeps me in the right temperature on the plane!

What’s always in your bag?

Advice you’d give new Moms…

What are your favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you love in each?

NYC has a lot of great restaurants but my favorite corn-on-the-cob ever is at Café Habana. In New Orleans, Commanders Palace and Coquette. In Austin Tx, Uchi Sushi and Eddie V’s Steakhouse.

If you could host a dinner party with any five people living or dead, who would be there? What would you cook?

My husband, my three kids Levi, Vida and Livingston and myself! That is heaven to me. I would cook Branzino fish, Brazilian stroganoff and Brigadeiro for dessert. And lots of it!
