We want every jacket designer Anine Bing makes…and is it any surprise? We feel like she should be dressing every biker chick out there, or more generally – every chick out there. The former model and current blogger and designer has been a style crush of ours for quite some time, so it was high time we made her an honorary potatohead. We chatted with Bing on beauty tips, workouts and dinner party faux pas…
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
I would start the day with a green smoothie and avocado toast. For lunch, I love a salad. For dinner, I love a good burger with fries and sometimes a milkshake. I believe in a balanced life – with food and everything else. I eat whatever I feel like and prefer to mix it up.
In your opinion, what makes a great brand?
We have a strong sense of identity both in terms of our design philosophy and who is wearing the clothes. Once you have that you can start to focus on quality and fit.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
From everywhere I go. I love going to flea markets. I also get inspired every time I travel and love looking at old magazines, books and films.
What’s your personal definition of good content?
There has to be some personality in all of the content you put out there. l always ensure that anything I share reflects how I genuinely feel and who I really am.
How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
Sleep for sure. If I don’t get eight hours of sleep I don’t feel good. I love going to bed early. I am trying to get into a routine of working out but I find it hard with my super busy schedule. Lots of green juices, fruits and vegetables work magic for your skin. Too bad I fall into the sugar addiction too often…
Foods and drinks you find are best for your skin, and worst for your skin…
The best are avocado and anything green. The worst are sugar and alcohol. It’s so bad for you, but it tastes so good!
What are the best and worst for hair?
I make sure to take my multi-vitamins. I think they help keep the hair healthy. Also, don’t wash it too often – maximum twice a week. That will make it healthier and stronger.
What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?
I always wash my face thoroughly. I really like Dermalogica Microfoliant Exfoliator – it brightens the skin and is still very gentle. I’m a big fan of an organic skincare brand called Estelle & Thild and I use their BioDefense Youth Oil and Serum. As a moisturizer I use La Prairie Skin Caviar Cream. Expensive but amazing!
What do you always bring to a dinner party for the host/hostess?
I don’t always bring the same thing; it all depends on the person. A nice candle, beautiful flowers or maybe a gift from my line.
What do you always put out as a hostess?
What, in your opinion, is the biggest dinner party faux pas?
Making things too complicated so that you’re not present and just stressed getting it organized.
Your go-to recipe for a weeknight…
I do not cook. The only thing I am actually great at is Swedish pancakes, which my kids (and I) really appreciate. I am so lucky that the kid’s nanny loves to cook. She makes my life much easier since that is not a quality of mine.
How do you always start your day?
I always kiss my kids and my husband good morning. Then a crazy busy morning starts getting the kids ready for school and myself ready for my day – making breakfast, getting them dressed, packing lunch boxes and so on. It’s never a dull moment in my house.
What workouts are you obsessed with right now? Which are overrated?
I am not a big workout person, but if I had the time I would go hiking more. It feels good for the soul and the body. Any type of spinning is overrated if you ask me.
What are five things you’re coveting right now?
I’ve always been a fan of scented candles and Diptyque is my favorite brand. I collect Vintage Chanel bags and I would love to add this one to my collection. Coffee table books are also something I like to have in my home and this one about beautiful Gisele Bundchen is on my list of books to get. I often wear clutches when I go for dinners and this one from my own brand is a favorite right now. I love the color and that you can fit all your necessities; phone, keys and a little bit of makeup. I always go back to this perfume. I love the orange blossom fragrance and always make sure to have a fresh bottle at home.
Advice to women looking in the mirror and getting dressed in the morning…
Less is more. When it comes to clothes, hair and makeup. I take a maximum of five to ten minutes to get ready. Throw out all the clutter. Keep your ten favorite beauty products and only have clothes in your closet that you love and that are easy to mix and match.
What are your favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you go to in each?
Los Angeles and New York. In LA, I always go to Pace and in New York I always try new places. That said, my husband and I always love a good steak dinner and STK is a favorite of ours that we often go back to. Their rooftop terrace is really nice in the summer!
In the same vein as ‘what is the new black’ what’s ‘the new potato’ in fashion?
Personally, I am very excited for my spring collection where you will see lots of lace, suede and and military green. The collection is the perfect mix of soft and hard and has a very luxurious bohemian feel to it.
