From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
Breakfast would be Eggs Florentine. It’s really hard for me to cook a poached egg, so I always order them when I’m out for breakfast. Lunch would be a spinach salad with beets and goat cheese. Dinner would be seafood linguini. I rarely eat pasta so whenever I do it’s such a treat. Dessert would be cheesecake. I can never resist.
How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
Diet-wise I always try to eat low carb. It’s the one thing that helps me maintain my weight and energy. A typical dinner for me is chicken, spinach and sweet potato. Workout-wise, I run. Mentally it relaxes me and once I get on a good frequent running schedule I find myself sleeping so much better.
What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?
I use Neutrogena face wipes every morning and night. I find that nothing takes off my makeup better than a face wipe. Before bed, I use lacto cream on my skin from Ruth’s on Melrose. My skin can be quite sensitive and I find it’s the best thing to soothe and moisturize.
Has Shonda Rhimes ever given you good advice? If so, what was it?
Shonda always says to “dance it out”. So when I find myself alone and stressed out for some reason, I just turn on some music and literally dance out my emotions.
Most memorable thing that’s happened on the set of Grey’s Anatomy…
Being present for the 250th episode party was amazing. I was present for the 200th episode so I couldn’t believe I was present again for yet another milestone. It’s also so rare for a show to get to that episode count. I’m not sure I’ll ever get to celebrate something like that again.
How do you always start your day?
I always have a giant cup of coffee with creamer. I also don’t own a to-go coffee cup, so I’m always spilling my mug on me on the drive to set.
What’s your perfect smoothie comprised of?
I love any combo that is berries and peanut butter. Add in some coconut butter and flax and I’m good to go!
What workouts are you obsessed with right now? Which are overrated?
I always love SoulCycle. I find the music and energy for those classes so fun and encouraging; even when you’re exhausted you keep pushing yourself. I think that any workout that promises a quick fix is overrated.
What’s your favorite sort of dinner party to host? What do you put out as a hostess?
I actually love throwing brunch! I have friends over and cook lemon ricotta pancakes and eggs. I make mimosas and Bloody Marys. I also try and make a vegan option if possible, like a scrambled tofu egg substitute with veggies. I was vegan for a while myself so sometimes I still like to avoid dairy and meat. As a hostess, options are always key.
What’s the perfect gift to bring the hostess as a guest?
For the evening, a bottle of wine is always a great gift. I don’t think you can go wrong with that. For brunch hosting, champagne.
Where do you love to travel? What won’t you travel without?
I love to travel back home to England. I miss it, especially in the winter. I try and go back every year – and make the trip to London to see the Christmas lights on Regent Street. I won’t travel without my phone adapter. The outlets are different in so many countries.
Best advice you’ve ever received…
A life lived in fear is a life half lived. Fear can be suffocating in life; I try not to let it dictate my decisions and long-term goals.
Advice you’d give your younger self…
I would love to tell my younger self to start running! It’s a passion I picked up in my early twenties but I wish I had started earlier.
The kitchen gadget you couldn’t live without…
In the same vein as ‘what is the new black’ in fashion, what’s the new potato right now?
I feel like fringe is the new black right now. It’s on everything from shoes, to dresses to jackets. I love it! I just wore a fringed skirt to a polo event in Los Angeles and it was one of my favorite looks.
