Narcos’ Juan Pablo Raba

Juan Pablo Raba is a new force to be reckoned with. He recently starred in Netflix’s Narcos, and is also in this week’s hottest movie release – The 33 – where he acts alongside greats like Juliette Binoche and Antonio Banderas. We caught up with Raba (our new crush) on Spanish food, getting married too early, and why men are less concerned with your looks than you are…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

Fried eggs with toast, pancakes, grapefruit juice and espresso coffee. Spanish Jabugo ham sandwich with crushed tomatoes and olive oil, olives and a Stella. Eggplant Parmesan and a green salad with tomatoes. A New York steak with sweat potato fries, a glass of Malbec, and an espresso.

What personal grooming items can’t you live without?

Deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush. All of the rest is optional.

What’s been the most memorable thing that’s happened on the set of Narcos?

Without a doubt, it was working with Wagner Moura and José Padilha. I have admired these two guys forever, and they are even better than the real thing.

What’s been your biggest discovery playing Gustavo?

Loyalty is a powerful thing.

What was the best part of shooting The 33

My last scene was shot at the end of day in the Atacama Desert in Chile. It’s the only scene where I actually interact with Juliette Binoche; need I say more?

What’s your personal definition of great content online?

Netflix, The Mind Unleashed, and Red Bull TV.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? The worst?

Best: Don’t take yourself so seriously.

Worst: Yeah, go ahead – it’s great to be married at a young age!

What’s your idea of the perfect first date?

A small road trip. It’s make it or break it.

One thing women should know about men, that they don’t…

We are a lot less concerned about your looks than you are.

Most memorable meal you’ve had with your wife and why…

Cap de Creus is a beautiful restaurant in the Spanish city of Cadaques. We had the most amazing seafood rice…

What workouts can’t you live without right now?

Mountain biking is a big part of my life now. Not only for exercise; I race as much as I can.

The instagram accounts you’re addicted to…

@RedBull, @Natgeo, @GoPro, @thefatjewish, @pinkbike, @adesignersmind, @historyphotographed, @vitalmtb

Where do you love to travel? What won’t you travel without?

I love Europe, but want to start visiting Asia. I always carry my bike.

A food you love…

Spanish food. It brings back amazing memories.

A food you think is overrated…

I’m a food lover; they all have something great.

What are your favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you go to in each?

So many places. In Barcelona, La Cervecería Catalana. In Madrid, Casa Lucio. In Bogota, NN. In New York, Carbone.

If you could host a dinner party with any five people living or dead, who would be there? What would you cook?

Jimmy Fallon, Stanley Kubrick, Ayn Rand, Emily Blunt, and Barack Obama. We’d have pasta and plenty of wine.
