Did the first four Paranormal Activity movies scare you? Turns out, it’s scary even for the actors that are actually in it. Brit Shaw, the star of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (which comes out today), would sometimes jump on set simply upon being approached by the sound guy coming to mic her up.
While we’re not the biggest scary movie people – we considered The Witches with Angelica Houston to be up there with Saw when we were younger – we can appreciate an up and coming actress starring in one of Halloween’s most popular (and spookiest) installments. Shaw let us in on favorite trick-or-treating candy, what scared her as a kid and the best and worst foods for her skin…
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
My favorite meal of the day is breakfast. I feel like it gives me strength and power to start the day right! Usually I have two eggs over easy, turkey bacon, avocado, berries, and hot sauce – always hot sauce! For lunch, I’d have a salad where every bite grabs a little bit of everything in it. Like an arugula and quinoa salad with chickpeas, avocado, cucumbers and tomatoes, tossed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Dinner would be grilled fish. I love the grilled salmon dish from a restaurant called Pace (here in Los Angeles). I remake it at home. It’s cooked on a wood plank, seasoned with shallots, fresh herbs, lemon juice, and extra virgin olive oil. The sides would be baby roasted potatoes and sautéed kale. Aw man, I’m so hungry just talking about this right now!
What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?
I always wash my face. I am very good about my beauty regimen day and night, and have been all my life, so it’s pretty much the same morning and night. I use a lot of Innovative Skincare (iS Clinical) and Skinceuticals products! I highly recommend them. And moisturizer and sunscreen are always applied (sunscreen for daytime only). My two favorite products are iS Clinical’s Youth Eye Complex and Skinceuticals C&E Feurlic. If I have any blemishes, I’ll dab on iS Clinical’s Active Serum or some tea tree oil.

How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
Beauty for me starts with the inside. Someone can be externally beautiful on the outside, but if he or she isn’t a good, kind, honest person on the inside, then the external features only go so far. Beauty for me is also being comfortable in who you are – allow yourself to be confident, and stand up for yourself! I love strong women! Not to digress, so back to what we were talking about…I don’t ever use the word “diet” because I don’t believe in “diets.” I believe in a conscious, healthy way of eating, with the ability to allow splurges on foods that might not be the best for you from time to time (for me that would be pizza!). It’s all about portion control, and seeing food as a nourishing necessity to your body…and not a “bad” thing. I do a lot of research on nutrition, and I’m very interested in it, so I’m always learning new things when it comes to food nutrition, and staying healthy. And lastly, sleep, water, and exercise are just as important. When I work out, it makes me feel good on the inside and out. I cut out soda a year ago and noticed such a difference in my face and body because I am drinking so much more water! And I haven’t missed soda at all, which is crazy because I thought I would.
What always scared you as a kid and why?
Bugs and spiders. When I was a kid, we had a lady who cleaned our house, and she was deathly afraid of spiders and bugs, so I think seeing that at such a young age made me terrified. I have gotten leaps and bounds better the past few years, but I still hate spiders and always check my bed for bugs before I go to sleep.
Was it scary filming Paranormal Activity at all? Why or why not?
There were times when it was. You get into this headspace while you’re filming and then anything can scare you. The sound guy could come up to me unexpectedly and need to fix my mic, and I’d jump.

Foods best and worst for skin…
I would say the best would be blueberries and anything green. I try and have both of those everyday. The worst would be white bread and sugar.
What are your favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you go to in each?
I actually love many restaurants in Los Angeles. My favorite spots would be Sushi Park (I get the Omakase, so I don’t get ordering anxiety, and I love it), Pace (Italian – I love the ambience there), and Mercado (Mexican – I’ve gotten to know the people who work there because I go so often).
I went to Italy and honestly can say every restaurant I went was amazing, but a favorite for sure was Le Tre Sorelle in Positano, which was buonissimo! (translation: Better than good) And, of course, Jack’s Wife Freda in NYC is a favorite, as well as Gemma at the Bowery Hotel.
