Olive oil used to be the quintessential star of the show. Everyone wanted to be friends with it, no one could live without it; in fact people would pop olive oil bottles with the same zest as they would Rose in summer or Cokes in Coca-Cola commercials.
Then along came coconut oil, then avocado oil, then almond oil…suddenly olive oil was in an oil oligopoly rather than the monopoly that once was the industry of oils.
