Cool, chic woman alert: fashion plate Yasmin Sewell is in the house today, and she’s giving us advice about – well – everything. The fashion consultant by day/street style star by night (not literally, but you get the gist) is one of those woman whose outfit you want on every and any given day. With her brand expertise (her line être cécile is a fashion favorite) and taste, it’s truly no surprise that we obsess over everything this woman is wearing. We plugged Sewell for thoughts on good content, brand priorities and her fall staples…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

So we’re starting off in the blissful surrounds of one of Bill Granger’s dreamy, light-filled Granger & Co. restaurants in London. Their breakfasts are some of the best in town, made from incredibly fresh and flavorsome produce. My ultimate order is the famous sweetcorn fritters (sweet, juicy and full of goodness) with a side of avocado salsa – it’s one of his signature dishes. Coffee doesn’t really agree with me but I’m always ready to jump at the chance at half of someone else’s soy latte.

Lunch would then be steak frites with Béarnaise sauce. Ideally somewhere fun, with people I find inspiring.

Dinner would be a damn good soup that I make with my own homemade chicken broth, super creamy with Ayurvedic spices like cumin, fenugreek and turmeric. Maybe with a salad — my dream salad usually consists of ingredients like pomegranate, feta, something green, and lots of extra virgin olive oil and lemon on everything. I’d have dinner at home, as that’s where I want to be when the sun is down.

A lot of my food philosophies I share with my dear friends the Hemsley sisters. The recipes from their first book The Art of Eating Well are literally what I live by.

How do you practice beauty from the inside out? 

I’m all about wellness from the inside out, and greens for everything: skin, energy, digestion…all of it! Omegas are key, along with loads of healthy, nourishing, nutrient-rich foods. I’m not a light/raw/dry eater. It’s about oils and warmth for me: fats, organic meat and cooked vegetables in abundance. I’m about more, not less. Feed your body in every way you can, but always with goodness. Meditation for the mind is essential for me. I’ve been practicing Vedic meditation for almost twenty years. And you know, if you’re feeling flat energetically, and your skin is looking lifeless, don’t underestimate the impact of a great song and an uninhibited dance around the house – please don’t picture this.

For my workout, I do what I feel works for me at the time. Right now, as I’m home a lot with a new baby, I’m obsessed with Tracy Anderson workouts. I stopped breastfeeding and started her program. She literally melted the baby weight away for me in eight weeks, and with both my consultancy clients and my work with être cécile, the short thirty minutes required every day is the perfect amount of time. I’ve practiced a lot of yoga, pilates and gyrotonics in my life. I love all three of these, but Tracy is just where I’m at right now! 

What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?

Beauty must haves for me are skin brushing, exfoliating, and again, oils. My two favorite alternative beauty brands are In Fiore from San Francisco, and Sodashi from Australia. I also love Estée Lauder and Bobbi Brown.

First thing in the morning, I scrape my tongue before I drink or eat anything. Then I wash with Bobbi Brown cleanser, exfoliate with In Fiore Lustra Exfoliating Floral Compound, followed by Elemental Herbology Cell Food serum and Estée Lauder Advanced Eye Serum. I moisturize with In Fiore Fleur Vibrante (which may be my all time favorite product). When it comes to nighttimes, I use the signature Eve Lom cleanser, and finish off with Sodashi’s Ultimate Age Defying Elixir.

In your opinion, what makes a great brand? 

A unique point of view, an understanding of the market you’re in and where you sit within it, and then owning that position and running with it without any fear.

What’s your personal definition of good content?

People want to see, read and watch things they wouldn’t have been able to come up with or imagine themselves. The best kind of content will inspire and refresh its audience – and maybe even make people consider things in a completely different way to what they have before.

What should a new brand’s first priorities be? 

Find your thing, and then find your customer – captivate them in the best way you can, with whatever budget you have. And don’t give up.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Trust your instincts.

The worst advice you’ve ever received?

I’m not sure on this; I guess that means I wasn’t listening!

Where do you love to travel? What won’t you travel without?

I love Puglia in Italy, and going home to Australia – they’re both total happy places for me. When traveling I will always take my favourite In Fiore Veloutée Lip Balm with me.

What’s always in your bag?

You know, amongst my wallet, house keys, phone and various beauty touch-up products, there’s usually always going to be some sort of plastic dinosaur or insect roaming around in there, courtesy of my three-year-old while my bag has been left unattended in the house.

Advice to women getting up, looking in the mirror and getting dressed..

Without trying to sound to preachy, I’d say try to be nice to yourself. Listen, and abolish the negative thoughts if they pop up. And then wear what makes you feel truly like you, with ease.

What’s your favorite city in Australia for food? Could you give us a roundup of restaurants there? 

Melbourne, for sure, as a super foodie city, but Sydney is also great. My favorite restaurants (and there are so many) are Moon Under Water, Cumulus Inc., and Cutler & Co in Melbourne. In Sydney I’m all about Sean’s Panaroma, Icebergs and Toko.

Your favorite other cities for food, what restaurants do you go to in each?

The city I live in – London! I love White Rabbit, Leila’s Shop, Granger & Co., Scott’s and La Petite Maison.

In the same vein as what is the new black in fashion, what’s the new potato right now?

I’m going to say it’s the Golden Latte with coconut milk, turmeric, ginger, honey and cinnamon.
