From movies like The Hunger Games and Orphan, to Showtime’s Masters of Sex, actress Isabelle Fuhrman has no doubt made her stamp as a young Hollywood up-and-comer. We usually have mixed feelings about eighteen-year-olds that arrive to shoots who are far and away cooler than us, but Fuhrman was impossible to dislike. She shared go-to cosmetics, her favorite smoothie and where she loves to eat in (her hometown) Georgia…
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
I would have to start with some really great pancakes, hash browns (extra crispy), two sunny side up eggs, avocado toast, some regular toast and vegan bacon from Real Food Daily. I’m not vegan but their vegan bacon is better than real bacon!
For a snack I would have a cup of Soupelina’s soup. Sweet Coconut Thai is my absolute favorite. It always reminds me of my trip to Thailand. It’s my Mom’s company so I get to have it whenever I want! I had her send me some when I was in NYC for fashion week because I was missing it so much. No one makes soup like her. No one.
For lunch, I would love to share a cheese and charcuterie plate with my sister. The whole shebang: Honey, jam, nuts…wow, so delicious! I’m salivating just thinking about it.
For an afternoon snack I’d go for some sushi. I love Masago sushi, octopus sushi, eel, and sea urchin. I’d love to try sushi I have never had before.
And dinner…I’d have lobster tacos and lamb chops from The Tower Bar in LA. I love the ambiance there and the food is always spectacular.
Then – because it’s my ideal food day – I’d hop on a plane and go to Laduree in Paris for dessert and have a cup of hot chocolate (they make the best in the world) and try all of their pastries.
Best memory on Masters of Sex so far…
In the first episode I had to do a scene where I took off my dress and drunkenly made out with Michael Sheen. I was so nervous and I had just turned eighteen so it was the first time I had ever done anything like that on camera. After I finished filming the scene, I walked off set to go to my trailer and Lizzy Caplan was outside our sound stage and just said, “Happy eighteenth birthday.” It was hilarious. She is so funny.
How do you always start your day?
I used to wake up and just go to school but now I wake up and go to the gym and box, take a yoga class, or go on a run. I love starting the day with a workout because it wakes me up – and I also don’t have to do it later in the day when I’m more prone to making up excuses!
What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?
In the morning I just splash my face with water and use Murad SPF 50 Vitamin B12 Moisturizer on my face. I normally don’t wear makeup. I just curl my eyelashes with my Shu Uemura eyelash curler and brush my eyebrows with Damone Roberts eyebrow gel. If I have work meetings and such I also use Dior Fix It concealer, Lancome mascara and Burt’s Bees pomegranate chapstick.
In the evening I alternate washing my face with Sesderma Salises face wash and Caudalie foaming cleanser (I alternate so my skin doesn’t get to used to the same product- when your skin gets used to a product it stops working). Once a week I use Murad skin smoothing polish exfoliant. I always finish with a squirt of Caudalie Beauty Elixir and then Caudalie moisturizer. If my skin is really dry I use Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream to restore it.
What’s your idea of the perfect breakfast?
Fauchon tea and egg whites with spinach, mushrooms and truffle salt. I sometimes put avocado on top if I’m feeling extra hungry.
The perfect smoothie?
Beverly Hills Juice in LA makes the best smoothie! I get a Green Genie juice (celery, parsley, spinach, kale, romaine, apple, ginger, lemon) and add frozen banana and almond to it. It becomes a full meal that tastes like dessert but has all these vegetables.
Words to both act and eat by…
Act and dress confidently, for the occasion and for yourself.
Three Instagram accounts we all have to follow…
Best advice you’ve ever received…
“It’s important to be vulnerable.” I am a very sensitive person and am very aware of my and other people’s feelings. When I was younger, I tried to hide it and be tough but I have realized in the past two years that being vulnerable and open is very strong and brave.
What on-the-go cosmetics are always in your bag?
The hair products you can’t live without…
What’s always in your on-set trailer fridge?
Soupelina soup is always in my set fridge. There are very rarely healthy options on set to eat so having it in my fridge is perfect.
Where do you love to travel? What won’t you travel without?
I love to travel, period. I will hop on a plane and go anywhere. Exploring a new place is my favorite thing to do. I never travel without my film camera. I love taking pictures with film because you get a completely different image than on a digital camera. I am actually doing a photo series right now on teenagers from around the world so having my camera with me is a must.
Could you give us a roundup of your favorite restaurants in Georgia?
I grew up there so a lot has changed and I bet there are new restaurants, but my favorite was Surin of Thailand in Virginia Highlands. I went back last year to shoot a movie and it was just as good as I remembered.
What are your other favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you go to in each?
In the same vein as ‘what is the new black’ what’s the new potato right now?
Being a multi-hyphenate. Do all the things you love.
