Actress Ali Larter

We’ll admit it, we love actress Ali Larter for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the woman is a double threat – she can cook and act. While yes, we’ll never forget Larter as Brooke Wyndham in our childhood mainstay Legally Blonde, we also love that she’s since written a cookbook – Kitchen Revelry – and launched a culinary lifestyle website. Larter took time between photos to tell us she hates food fads, loves hot yoga and thinks Paris never gets old (touché)…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

I’d wake up to a cappuccino and a French croissant. Lunch would be baguette (French, again…always) with artisinal butter, green bean salad, and grilled salmon. For dinner, unquestionably, oysters with Sancerre, wedge salad, New York steak, French fries and St. Emilion Bordeaux. Done.

What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?

I’m a mother of two with a new baby at home right now, I start a lot of days by slapping water on my face. I’m lucky if I get my teeth brushed. If I have to be up and out of the house, it’s always Cetaphil cleanser, an Elizabeth Arden Ceramide capsule, then Dayle Breault Skincare Moisturizer and Shiseido 50. At night (if I wash my face…nights sometimes go the same as mornings) it’s Cetaphil again, Lancer Younger Serum, Crème de la Mer, and Dayle’s eye cream. Night-time beauty may happen twice a week…always working on it!

Foods that make you glow…

Green juice, blueberries, and dark chocolate.

How do you practice beauty from the inside out?

Lots of water, both drinking it in and sweating it out. I run, do pilates and hot yoga. I also steam whenever I can. If I don’t do it to my veggies, at least I’ll do it to myself!

How do you always start your day?

With my son waking me up. 6:30AM has never looked so adorable…or mischievous.

Where do you love to travel? Where do you want to go that you haven’t been?

I’m about to start a journey to Cape Town, South Africa with my entire family. I’ve never been to Africa so I feel incredibly lucky to be able to share the experience. That said, Paris never gets old…

What’s the biggest dinner party faux pas as a guest and host?

As a host, don’t be too uptight. In entertaining, it’s important to embrace imperfection and maintain your own joie-de-vivre. If you’re having a good time, so will your guests! As a guest, leave pickiness at the door and get swept up in the experience that has been created for you!

The book you’re obsessed with right now…

I just read the third installment of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels and am (eagerly!) anticipating the fourth.

One food fad you like and one food fad you dislike and why…

As far as what’s newly popular, I love seeing the farm-to-table movement spread, but I hate food fads in general. The good stuff becomes a classic before it’s ever seen as a trend.

A go-to weeknight recipe in three steps…

Chicken paillard with heirloom tomato and bocconcini salad, any night of the week! Grill pounded chicken in a grill pan with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, salt, pepper, and herbs de provence. Chop heirloom tomatoes, bocconcini, and sundried tomatoes and toss with olive oil and crushed garlic. Plate the pounded chicken, and top with a handful of arugula, a scoop of bocconcini mix, and a squeeze of lemon. Devour.

What advice do you have for women waking up, looking in the mirror and getting dressed in the morning?

“Looking good, lady!” Say that to yourself. Then put on the things that make you feel it’s truth.

What would your last meal be? Who would it be with?

The aforementioned steak and St. Emilion decadence, with my hubby.

What’s your go-to if you feel your skin needs a quick sprucing?

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules, and a spritz of water.

The workout you’re addicted to right now…

Hot Yoga. Hot yoga, hot yoga, hot yoga.

Best advice you’ve ever received…

Deepen what makes you unique; question what makes you the same.

Worst advice you’ve ever received…

“It’s too hard.” Everything’s too hard. You make it easy with your hard work and love.

What are your favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you go to in each?

In New York City, Maialino, Carbone, and Raoul’s. In Los Angeles, Bestia and Tower Bar. In Paris, Le Comptoir and Septime. In Maine, The Ramp Bar & Grill.

In the same vein as what is the new black in fashion, what’s the new potato?

Women. We’ve always been every potato, and the world is finally catching on. The moment is here for the ladies to lead!
