Why Is Apple Cider Vinegar Good For You?

We’re always hearing about the miracle liquid that is apple cider vinegar. Our tastemakers use it in a variety of ways, and we’ve no doubt taken a shot of it with water, gurgled it, put it on blemishes, added it to DIY face mask recipes and used it in a number of ways in the kitchen…all to our delight. We find we’re constantly being asked though if our readers should consume it, and if so, one over-arching reason why they should. As we like to always practice beauty from the inside out, we aimed to find an answer from our favorite nutritionist Mikaela Reuben whose answer is aimed more at overall wellness than skincare:

“Apple cider vinegar helps alkalinize your body especially after nights out drinking. It’s rich in acetic acid, which can help to lower the rise in glucose that occurs after eating, which helps moderate our blood sugar and energy levels. Apple cider vinegar has also been shown to suppress fat storage in the body and aids in digestion by promoting the production of digestive enzymes!”

Wondering when you should consume apple cider vinegar? Reuben tells us: “Everyday! In the morning or after your first meal.”

We recommend putting one or two teaspoons a day mixed in a glass of water, as a straight shot of it can damage the enamel on your teeth.
