Lauren Remington Platt

It’s never a bad time to get advice on all things beauty from a cosmetic guru like Lauren Remington Platt. Platt is founder of the on-demand makeup service – Vênsette – which we’ve used to save the day at shoots many times over. It’s almost like Postmates or Seamless for makeup, and we’re really loving it. See what Platt has to say on all things beauty from the inside out…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

I am a fairly healthy eater and don’t stick to a particular diet. My mother is a doctor and always cooked so I grew up on a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables from our farm. Recently I’ve been trying to drink more green juices as a way to get all my nutrients in one stop. I think it’s important to listen to what your body needs and most importantly keep everything in moderation. I drink hot tea with lemon in the morning and tend to choose yogurt and fruit or an egg-white wrap for breakfast. If I’m having brunch, I will opt for a frisee salad or eggs benedict which I love. During the week, I keep lunch light with a kale salad from Hu Kitchen or a Mediterranean dish from Taboonette – both are right near my offices so I tend to not get too adventurous. I try to cook as much as possible and love the ritual of it. I eat out for dinner several times a week and when I go out I love Sant Ambroeus’ quinoa salad with brussel sprouts on top — I would say that is my absolute favorite dish.  I have a weakness for chocolate – chocolate covered almonds and also cupcakes.

How do you practice beauty from the inside out?

Beauty to me is not about perfection. There is a great saying by Yves Saint Laurent: “The most beautiful thing for a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy.” I think beauty is first and foremost about self-acceptance, passion, and character. And, of course, confidence. Women look their most beautiful when they feel confident and strong and take care of themselves mentally and physically. For me, the passion I have for my business is what has come to define so much of who I am at this moment.

What’s your morning and nightly beauty regimen?

I adore baths and usually take them in the evenings when I get home from work. I find there is something very soothing about going to bed warm and relaxed. On the beauty front, because I get my makeup done by Vênsette for work related events during the week, my day-to-day beauty regimen is focused on hydrating and replenishing my skin. I like to keep it as simple as possible! During the day I wear minimal makeup to work with just mascara and prefer using oils with a light cream on top — usually La Mer or Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream. In the evening I swear by the Erno Laszlo Overnight Hydrating Mask and Rapid Renewal Cell Complex Serum. I use Caudalie Beauty Elixir throughout the day to keep my skin hydrated and fresh.

A beauty mainstay that hasn’t changed since your teen years…

A lot of sleep! I can’t function if I am not well rested. Also drinking a lot of water and running at least twice a week.  On the product side Armani Red Lipstick #400 has always been a staple in my beauty kit. A blowout and a red lip are classic looks that never go out of style. I love this look so much that I made it a feature of the Vênsette menu and one of our best sellers— a red lip and eyeliner flick I named the “Grace Kelly.”

Beauty products you can’t live without…

Rodin Face Oil, Tata Harper Replenishing Nutrient Complex, Jo Malone Wild Fig Oil, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation, Alterna Bamboo Style Dry Shampoo, and Protective Nourishment Blueberry Scrub Mask.

Three beauty products we’ll always find in your purse…

Clé de Peau Beauté Mascara, Burberry Brow Pencil and Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentre.

Best and worst foods/drinks for your skin…

Leafy greens such as kale and spinach and fruits like blueberries that are full of antioxidants are always wonderful for your skin. As for anything bad? Too much sugar.

Words to yourself upon looking in the mirror…

“Confidence breeds beauty.”Estée Lauder

Where do you go to pamper yourself?

Erno Laszlo Institute is my go-to for hydrating facials and Shibui Spa at the Greenwich Hotel is my pick for a massage and spa day.

What’s ‘the new potato’ in beauty?

I think blowouts are today’s equivalent of the power suit. And, of course: Beauty on-demand, to your door, 24/7 #Vensette!
