We don’t know what your Valentine’s Day plans are, but there are a fair amount of people who will be found at the long-awaited Fifty Shades of Grey movie, or perhaps attempting scene reenactments in spite of the don’t-try-this-at-home warnings (seriously, firemen have been expressing worry and telling audiences what NOT to do from the movie).
We spent a day this week catching up with Victor Rasuk, who plays Jose Rodriguez – the guy that’s put into the ‘friend zone’ (not the S & M zone) by Anastasia on Fifty Shades. He gave us the inside scoop on all his cast members; apparently Jamie Dornan almost broke his arm filming, and Dakota Johnson waited to film in the long awaited Red Room until she saw it for the very first time…
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
I’d start off with crab cakes with avocado and a glass of orange juice. I never start my day without glass of orange juice. Lunch would be Arctic Char salad from Chalk Point Kitchen and for dinner I’d go to Esperanto and have a rice and beans dish with pan seared chicken.
What was your biggest surprise in filming Fifty Shades of Grey?
My biggest surprise on shooting the film was the determination by everyone behind the scenes on making a movie that is very close to the book.
You play Anastasia’s best friend who has always had feelings for her. Can you relate to that part?
Yes. Everyone can relate to Jose in the sense that we’ve all had our heart broken and we’ve all moved on from that in one way or another. That’s what made it easy for me to portray this role.
Surprising things we don’t know about your cast members…
Dakota [Johnson] purposely didn’t see the Red Room until the first day she filmed there.
Most memorable moment on set…
…was when Jamie [Dornan] damn near broke my arm on the first day of filming while we were shooting the scene outside of the bar. He’s strong!
Any Valentine’s Day plans? If so what are they?
Yes, to go see Fifty Shades of Grey – if I can get a ticket!
What your idea of the perfect first date?
It’s so typical for the guy to take out the girl for dinner which is cool but if a man can cook a girl dinner (three-course meal style) then that’s a perfect first date.
What are you favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you go to in each?
In the same vein as what is the new black in fashion, when it comes to romance what do you think “the new potato” is?
Going to see Fifty Shades of Grey! Twice!
