How To Dress & Eat For NYFW

It’s NYFW, so we had to confer with fashion consultant Ramya Giangola (Gogoluxe) who’s also a CFDA mentor for the fashion incubator as well as (can we say) one of the chicest women we’ve come across. She’s got a certain something, or as the French like to call it ‘du chien’ (thanks Porter, for teaching us that expression in your February issue).

We couldn’t help but pillage her closet and find out what she’s wearing during fashion week. She also gave us tips on how to style for the next seven days, as well as where to eat (naturally)…

Your ideal food day during NYFW…

Would start at home with a yummy avocado toast breakfast and Dr. Lipman smoothie… As a lot of the shows now are centered around west Chelsea (my hood) we could pop into Cookshop or the Hotel Americano for lunch and then a late dinner at Omar’s or Indochine. I also love taking people to Il Cantinori or Ballato for non-fashion yummy Italian (especially for February fashion week when it’s absolutely arctic!). Although we do always end up unexpectedly seeing other fashion folk at Il Cantinori!

Five tips for styling your outfits during fashion week…

For me, it’s important to balance ease and style, meaning it has to be comfortable enough that you can be running around town in between shows and buying appointments. I tend to do more flats, sneakers or shorter stack heels during the day and switch it up to a higher heel for evening if I have time to get home before night shows and dinner. I love the idea of wearing a statement pair of shorts a la Comme des Garçon with a men’s style shirt, and I love the idea of stripes with everything. When in doubt, add a stripe! I know I’m going to be super comfy in the AG x Alexa Chung overalls as well, so these may be worn on a marathon day of shows and meetings. I always try to include Comme des Garçon pieces, and Rosie Assoulin pieces, two of my absolutely favorites!

Tips for where to eat in each city during fashion week…

In New York, I love heading to Omar’s for a fun cozy dinner with friends during fashion week. Sant Ambroeus is also a staple, as well as ABC Kitchen for weekend lunch. I have a feeling The Polo Bar will be in heavy rotation as well. No time in London is complete without a meal at The Wolseley and drinks at Chiltern Firehouse. In Milan, Bar Basso for a drink and Il Carpaccio for yummy pasta. In Paris, Pétrelle for a divine, intimate setting, Davé for fashion chinois, and Café de Flore for drinks.

5 tips for traveling around town during fashion week…

Uber is an absolutely lifesaver, and ride sharing with fashion pals as much as possible!

5 must-haves in your bag during fashion week…

I always have a few sachets of Prince Teas in my bag. It’s full of good things like turmeric and sencha that help relax and de-stress me. I love the flavor. Meals can sometimes be few and far between so a Karlie’s Kookie from Momofuku does the job as well. I also can’t leave home without the iPhone charger and NARS lipstick in red square, and my mini Georgia Louise rose face mist for an immediate refresh!
