The National Fashion Director at Modern Luxury, James Aguiar, is a romantic…and a great cook. We stopped by for dinner at the chic Park Slope apartment he shares with his partner, Mark Haldeman. The two are no doubt a fashion power duo; Aguiar is a necessary fixture at Modern Luxury and Haldeman runs the U.S retail business for Paul Smith.
As the risotto simmered, the couple – together eighteen years now – regaled their first meeting. Mark was fresh off the boat from Minnesota and heading to FIT. On his first night out on his own, he headed to an Upper West Side neighborhood bar where he noticed James, who also spotted Mark and couldn’t help but approach him with his number on the way out. For years they worked across the street from one another and finally decided to go on a date, which James skipped, afraid that this could really be something serious. It was when Mark called James to ream him out that James begged for another chance. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Now, we potato-heads aren’t condoning getting stood up, but this is one of those times that proves he could just be into you…even if his actions don’t say so. Anyway, enough Doctor Phil this Tuesday morning; peruse dinner with the fashionable exception to the rule…
