Veronica Beard

It’s all in the family today on TNP. We had lunch in the studio with sisters-in-law Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard, the girls behind eponymous fashion brand Veronica Beard. It’s a new favorite of ours, as the duo creates collections that are both playful and functional. What’s the inside scoop on these Veronica’s? That’s what we’re here for…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

Veronica Miele Beard: The setting is important. I’d be at an outdoor café in Europe eating a hardboiled egg and cheddar sandwich on a French baguette. At lunch, oceanside, eating a big bowl of mussels in a garlic and butter sauce with another big baguette. For dinner, I’d start with grilled calamari, then homemade pasta with spicy lobster sauce from Babbo. Dessert is a decaf cappuccino with tartuffo (pistachio!).

Veronica Swanson Beard: For breakfast, coffee, and an egg, spinach, and turkey bacon wrap from my gym, Clay. An All Greens juice and Asian Shaker salad from Liquiteria for lunch, some unhealthy afternoon snack (with tea), salmon and sautéed spinach for dinner, and dessert (unfortunately I can never shake dessert).

How do you always start your day on a good note?

VMB: My ideal day is one that starts with Joe Coffee. I’m slightly obsessed. If the coffee in the AM isn’t right, the entire day is wrong!

VSB: With eight hours of sleep!

The trick to working with family…

BOTH: From the start, we agreed to leave family at the door.

What’s your drink?

VMB: An imported, full-bodied Cabernet or super Tuscan.

VSB: Coffee with half and half or Swanson Merlot.

What inspires you?

VMB: People who are passionate about something and go for it!

VSB: All of the insanely talented women I know.

Where are your favorite spots to travel to? What won’t you travel without?

VMB: I’m a sucker for Europe: the food, the history and the art. I also love exotic places like India or Bolivia. Different cultures and people have always inspired me – there are certain places that change you forever. I won’t travel without my family because there’s nothing more fulfilling than going through the experience together.

VSB: I’m a cancer, so I like traveling with my family to familiar places. Some of my favorites are Napa, Sun Valley and Naples, Florida. I don’t travel without my husband.

Were there any specific trips or places that certain collections were born out of? What were they?

VMB: Every collection is inspired by a trip and an element of time travel. Whether it’s the west coast of the USA for Pre-Fall, or a jaunt to Jamaica for Resort, we love visiting elements of the sixties, seventies and eighties. American classics were born then, and we like to twist them up for today’s lifestyle.

VSB: Pre-Fall was inspired by the proverbial road trip. In college, I took a long road trip from New Orleans to California with my younger sister and two best friends. I will never forget that week; just the thought of it makes me laugh hysterically.

Beauty routines for both morning and night…

VMB: Night is crazy important. Take all of your makeup off with makeup remover for eyes and soap for face. I chemically exfoliate every night and wear eye serum and lip balm. Morning is fast, but effective! I quickly wash, apply eye serum and tinted moisturizer, then I apply eye makeup, contour cheekbones with a bronzer, brighten the apples of the cheeks and go!

VSB: I’m up at 6:40 to shower, followed by Tammy Fender products, makeup and race to get the kids to school. At night, I always use Tammy Fender’s Quintessential Serum and take my contacts out.
