In light of last night’s True Blood premiere, which had a ridiculous twist involving this lady/vamp (so you may want to watch pre or post this feature), we chatted with one of its stars, Rutina Wesley, who plays the no-nonsense beautiful human-turned-vampire Tara Thornton. We’re letting this one speak for itself: All we’ll say is, it’s a Monday morning story you’re going to want to sink your teeth into…(Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves…)
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
For breakfast, fresh fruit and a cup of oatmeal with almond milk. For lunch, a big Chop Stop salad, and for dinner, some protein and vegetables for dinner.
What’s your drink after a long day on set?
San Pellegrino grapefruit flavor.
What’s different about playing Tara Thornton from other parts you’ve played?
Tara has a lot of turmoil inside, and many layers that are hard to navigate through at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus being a vampire now has it’s own set of challenges.
In playing the part of the Tara, where do you draw inspiration from?
People I know in my life or people I’ve met, as well as my own experiences.
What’s the most shocking discovery you’ve made in all your time of playing that part?
The most shocking thing for me was wondering how Tara would deal with her new life as a vampire…
A memorable moment from when True Blood first started…
Doing my first scene in Merlottes Bar with Nelsan Ellis.
Pre and post shoot routines…
Pre and post shoot, I always have my beats and music blaring in my ears.
Do you have a workout regimen? What is it?
I do Pilates three to four times a week, and I run around five times a week.
What’s always in your bag on set?
What’s a typical lunch like on the set of True Blood?
Burgers, tator tots and steak at times, but they do have salad and other healthy options too.
What’s always in your True Blood trailer fridge?
Hansen’s Diet Soda
A few things we don’t know about a few cast members…
Well as far as I go, I like to break out into random dance numbers.
Your go-to on set snack…
What’s the ingredient you consider overrated?
Which do you think makes everything better?
Shows you love to watch…
So You Think You Can Dance, The Biggest Loser, Scandal, and I Love Lucy.
What are your favorite cities for food? Where do you go to in each?
If you could host a dinner party, with any five people living or dead, who would be there?
Nikki Giovanni, Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Hines, Nina Simone, and August Wilson.
