The 22 Jump Street Star Talks All Things Food & Beauty

Today, the quintessential bromance – 22 Jump Street – hits theaters, so naturally we hit up the heroine of the film, Amber Stevens for details on all things lifestyle. Whether it’s juicy tidbits on co-stars Channing and Jonah (we like to think we’re on a first name basis okay?) her beauty routines or onset snacking, it’s all here for you to peruse on this very welcome Friday morning. And just to set the record straight, since we know you all were wondering, if we were undercover cops our headquarters would be called Potato Party Street…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

Ideal meaning calories aren’t a concern and my belly is a bottomless pit for all things sugary? Oh..here we go!

I would start my morning with a buttery croissant from Bottega Louie, a side of scrambled eggs with chives and a coffee with just a splash of milk. For an early lunch, I’d have the fig jam and brie sandwich from Joan’s on Third. I would then go for another lunch at DeSano for some fresh Italian pizza. After that I’d need a nap to prepare for my all you can eat Korean BBQ feast…anywhere in Koreatown will do. Then I’d wrap up my day with a slice of princess cake from Alcove Café in Los Feliz.

What’s your drink?

An iced coffee with a splash of milk. I’m an addict. I blame my father.

How do you balance health and eating out?

Whenever I’m at home or alone, I eat as healthy as possible and I never have junk food in the house. But there are no rules when it comes to dinner parties, girl’s nights or date night! Food is my only vice! I do work out at least four days week though!

What are some pre and post shoot routines?

The week before a shoot I like to order my meals through a delivery program like Z.E.N Foods. My food is pre-portioned for me so I don’t have to think about it. And I make sure to get a facial. Post shoot I eat fro-yo…a lot of fro-yo.

A fun fact about each of your two main cast members (Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill) that we didn’t know already…

Jonah is shy around Ice Cube. It’s actually quite adorable. Channing never goes longer than two weeks without seeing his family, even if only for one day! He’s a very committed husband and father.

Do you all snack on set? What do you snack on?

It is virtually impossible not to snack on set, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar! The trick is to always have a bottle of water handy so you don’t go nuts on the Red Vines or chocolate covered raisins. I’ll try to stick to fruits, vegetables and nuts but sometimes a girl just needs a Red Vine.

What’s always in your on-set trailer fridge?

I’m never in my trailer. It’s always empty. I like to hang out in the makeup trailer or on set! I usually become closest friends with the hair and makeup team.

What’s always in your bag on set?

I always have my phone, a coffee or tea in my reusable cup and some Chapstick.

What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?

Every morning I lightly wash my face and put on a face oil. Every night I wash my face with a Clarisonic brush, exfoliate, tone, and apply night cream…and a spot treatment, because let’s be honest, I almost always have at least one unwanted visitor! It’s a long routine but it works!

Did you do anything to prepare for the part? What was it?

I tried to eat as healthy as I could because I knew I’d want to indulge in New Orleans [where the movie filmed]…which I totally did. Other than that, I just learned my lines!

Favorite scene…

My favorite scene in 22 is the fist fight between Jillian Bell and Jonah. Oh my God does that make me cry with laughter!

Words to both eat and act by…

Always try something at least once. You never know, it could be the best thing you’ve never had! i.e. escargot is incredible.

Who’s someone you haven’t worked with that you’d still like to work with?

Lisa Kudrow. I just want to watch her work! There’s no one like her.

What are your favorite cities for food? Where do you go to in each?

In Los Angeles: Bestia, Osteria Mama, Connie and Ted’s, Coffee + Food, The Little Door, Izaka-ya by Katsu-ya, Picca, Souplantation (for sentimental reasons only). In New York, Momofuku Ssam Bar and Casa Mono. In, New Orleans: Cochon, Jacques-Imo’s.

If you could host a dinner party with any five people living or dead, who would be there? What would you cook?

My grandma (who has passed) so I could show her that I know how to cook now, Walt Disney, Ella Fitzgerald, Michelle Obama (so my grandma could meet her), and Jonathan Larson. I would host a crab boil! Eating messy food makes people feel at ease and is a great conversation starter!
