When we shot designer Jenni Kayne in Los Angeles a month or so back, we immediately drove to her store in West Hollywood afterwards to purchase the outfit she was wearing. We also tried (less successfully) to stay in her home as long as humanly possible; it’s easily one of our favorite spaces we’ve shot in. To boot, Kayne herself is as easy, fun and light as her collection, and we’re demanding an NYC store opening as soon as possible (to the detriment of our wallets, but the benefit of our wardrobes). Check out the story on all things appealing (aka Jenni Kayne)…
Describe your ideal food day…
I try to start every day with two Greens One juices for breakfast from Pressed Juicery. Ideally, I’d have the Kale Salad from Gracias Madre or the Rice Bowl from Ammo for lunch and then come home and make one of our favorite dishes. I reference my blog Rip+Tan so often for recipes that I’ve posted.
What’s your drink?
What would your last meal be? Who would it be with?
My last meal would be everything I avoid on a daily basis, which includes but isn’t limited to pizza, macaroni and cheese, French fries, lemon meringue pies…you name it! I would have my entire family there, all around a big table and everything would be served family style.
How do you start your day on a good note?
My husband makes me coffee and we snuggle with the kids in bed. Then I do yoga, Pilates or go horseback riding before work to get centered.
Your morning and nightly beauty routines…
In the morning, I use Tammy Fender cleanser and then every few days I use her Epi-Peel followed by Evan Healy Rose Hydrosol. I also use Terri Lawton Stem-Cell Face and Eye Cream and Suntegrity Tinted Sunscreen. For makeup, I love Cle De Peau Concealer for under my eyes and a NARS lipstick. My favorite shades lately are Niagara, Casablanca, Roman Holiday, or Belle de Jour. For perfume, I use Santa Maria Novella Rosewater or Kiehl’s Musk and sometimes I mix them.
In the evening, I like Evan Healy Tea Tree Gel Cleanser followed by her Lavender Facial Tonic Hydrosol. I use Cosmedix Rescue Balm and Terri Lawton Stem-Cell Eye Cream. Or if I’m really tired or lazy, I wipe my face with a Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipe and call it a night. I keep them next to my bed for emergencies.
What’s your splurge?
Right now, it’s definitely things for my kids and our house.
Where do you go for inspiration?
I’m a California girl through and through and don’t have to look far. The landscape here is incredible, from the desert to Northern California. I’m constantly inspired by my surroundings and my friends.
What are your favorite places to travel to?
With my family I love going to our home in Lake Tahoe during the Summer or to ski. I love going to Paris for work – I went to Maison & Objet to shop for my new home store I opened last fall in Montecito and always have the best time there. For a romantic weekend with my husband, I love the Amangiri in Utah or the Auberge du Soleil in Napa.
What won’t you travel without?
I’m a bit of a superstitious traveler so I wear the same jewelry each time I fly and I also never leave home without one of my Jenni Kayne cashmere blankets.
What’s always in your fridge?
We’re constantly stocking Pressed Juicery in our fridge. We like to keep fresh fruit and veggies ready for snacking so there are always plenty of Weck jars filled things we find at the farmer’s market. And almond milk from Almond Milk LA.
