On Kardashian Food Habits And Go-To Recipes

It’s no secret that we’re fans of family businesses here at The New Potato. Well, on this particularly special post-Oscar Monday – when everyone’s gossiping on all things celebrity – we’re bringing you a family matriarch who (as Ellen Degeneres would say) truly needs no introduction. Kris Jenner hung out with us at Nobu Malibu and let us in on her family’s food likes and dislikes, mom advice and go-to recipes when her kids were young…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

My ideal food day is just to stick to my diet! But in a dream world, I would probably start with a waffle or French toast, have a Chinese chicken salad from Chin Chin for lunch and end it with beef tacos, cheese enchiladas, rice and beans, and margaritas at Casa Vega, my favorite Mexican restaurant. When I am in New York, I love Milos, and Cipriani’s vodka pasta with chicken.

How has the reality television industry changed since you started Keeping Up With The Kardashians eight years ago?

For us, it really hasn’t changed. We’re doing the same thing we were doing seven years ago.

What is something your fans don’t know about you that they might find out from reading your new book? 

That I absolutely love to cook and am a foodie.

What advice do you give your daughters when helping to launch their brands?

Be passionate. It’s all about passion and work ethic and doing the best job you can do – no matter how small the job.

How do you toe the line between having a celebrity family empire, and maintaining privacy?

There is no privacy!

What were some go-to recipes when cooking for your kids when they were younger? What did everyone like and dislike food-wise? 

Italian chicken, lamb chops and rice pilaf, quesadillas, and lots of pasta. Kourtney and Robert were the pickiest eaters! Robert didn’t like anything green.

For Italian chicken, make with boneless skinless chicken breast in a clear glass or ceramic baking dish. Pour Italian Bernsteins dressing over the chicken, a quarter of an inch high. Season with garlic salt, seasoned pepper, seasoned salts, and paprika. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for thirty – forty five minutes and serve. For lamb chops (served with pilaf), salt and pepper both sides, and grill. For the pilaf, start with a medium sized sauce pan and melt three tablespoons of butter. Add three handfuls of Manischewitz egg noodles and sauté until golden. Add one cup of rice and sauté rice quickly for ten seconds. Add three and a half of chicken broth and bring to a boil. Cover and lower heat to simmer for thirty minutes.

Were there go-to Kardashian family vacations when everyone was younger? Where to?

Hawaii and a lot of ski vacations in Vail and Aspen, Colorado.

A Kardashian family tradition that has never changed…

Our annual Christmas eve party with all of our closest family and friends.

How do you stay healthy from the inside out?

Diet and exercise!

What are your favorite cities for food? Where do you go in each?

In Los Angeles, La Scala, Stanley’s, Shibuya, and Nobu. In Paris, Hotel Costes for dinner. In New York, Milos and Cipriani.
