Justine Ezarik

Justine Ezarik – primarily known as iJustine – embodies what we like to call digital royalty. While everyone is raving about the Oscars and the celebrities who will be there Sunday, we’re focused on a newer kind of public figure – the online glitterati.

Ezarik no doubt falls into this category. With three million YouTube subscribers across her four channels (and 430 million video views), she is one of the most subscribed to female personalities on the web. There were a number of things that struck us about Justine – one being that she makes videos where she does recipes solely in a blender. Pound Cake,PB & J, pancakes – you name it, she’s blended it. We frolicked with Ezarik around the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, and chatted about granola, grilled cheeses and Gfinity (a Call of Duty tournament, for serious)…

Describe your ideal food day…

An amazing breakfast is a must! Eggs, toast, and fruit. A small lunch, big dinner and lots of coffee (and candy) throughout the day.

How do you start your day on a good note?

After checking all of my various social networks, breakfast and coffee are the most important things on the to-do list.

In your opinion, what’s the ideal YouTube video duration?

Depends on the content. I think a good solid 3-5 minutes for an average video is perfect.

How has YouTube changed since you started (with the 300-page iPhone bill)?

It’s changed so much! Not only from a layout perspective, but it’s become a much more mainstream platform. You can almost always find anything you’re looking for (and not looking for) on YouTube.

What’s your thought process before making a video? How do you decide which to do and which not to do?

Most of my videos come from inspiration from people around me, random situations I find myself in and a lot of suggestions from viewers.

Why do you love cooking with a blender? What haven’t you cooked with one that you’d like to try?

I bought this expensive blender that wasn’t really getting much use so I thought I’d try to cook as many things in it as possible. At the time I also didn’t have a mixer, so there wasn’t any other option. I’d love to make a really nice lasagna in it and maybe a few more cakes!

What new YouTube trends aren’t you a fan of?

I usually watch most of my friends on YouTube so I’m usually pretty into whatever crazy antics they are. I know a lot of people aren’t into gaming videos, which is crazy because that’s one of the most viewed things on YouTube and one of my favorites to post.

What are your favorite places to travel to for work?

I’ve really enjoyed traveling to London pretty often for GFinity, a Call of Duty tournament that is held there. Lots of gamers from all over the world attend and it’s really fun to get everyone together.

What won’t you travel without?

I can’t board the plane (or leave the house) without an external USB battery charger for my iPhone.

What ingredient do you consider overrated?

I actually have no idea. If it makes something taste better, I really don’t care if it’s overrated!

What ingredient are you convinced makes everything better?

My mom is a huge fan of Turmeric and puts it on everything…so now, I’ve started to do the same. I’m not sure if it makes it better, but she tells me it’s “good for me”.
