Hoping to start your weekend in the most dapper way possible? We took care of that, pillaging the upper portion of the Details masthead for Matthew Marden, their fashion director. Marden is no doubt an expert on all things surrounding the stylish male, which is why he let us in on what we don’t know about men, as well as what the ‘modern man’ is. We feel quite enlightened, and rather than keeping this newfound information to ourselves, we figured we’d share it with you. No thanks required, just send us some new potatoes…
Describe your ideal food day…
Breakfast: Banana with organic crunchy peanut butter and coffee
Lunch: Protein (fish or chicken) with broccoli or spinach
Snack: A KIND Bar, blueberries, and raw almonds
Dinner: Repeat lunch
Taking lunches outside of the office is hard for me. Instead, I love an 8:45am breakfast at Café Cluny. I will get an omelet with spinach or the Dutch Breakfast.
If I don’t have a work event, we (my boyfriend, Bobby and I) will order in dinner. We’ve been in really into Vietnamese lately because we just got back from Vietnam. We will get beef or pho from the place around the corner. We will also take out from Tulcingo Del Valle in Hell’s Chicken. They have authentic Mexican. I usually get the Pollo Asado.
What’s your drink?
What would your last meal be? Who would it be with?
Pepperoni Pizza from Two Boots with my boyfriend, Bobby Graham.
How do you start your day on a good note?
I work out every morning at 5:30am – I am kind of psycho about it. Also, if I abstain from refined carbs in the morning, I feel great.
What are some of your healthy routines?
I work out and I eat small portions every two to three hours. I eat first thing in the morning to kick-start my metabolism and I try not to eat late at night – not after 8, if I can avoid it.
What’s one thing women don’t know about men?
We are just as anal about our eating habits as women are. We just don’t talk about it as much.
What would you define as “the modern man?”
Someone who is open-minded, has his own sense of style and has confidence without being cocky.
What is good content?
A good piece of content should be inspiring – and keep you thinking, even days later.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Old movies – movies are huge for me – art, and old fashion photography (turn of the century – present).
